I set up a winter mountain bike plan just to get me in shape for when I hit the trails. Every year I say I am going to do it, then I don’t, and my first month is hell. But this year I did it! However, it keeps snowing and my plan ends next week. It doesn’t seem like our trails will be open until April.
So what do I do about fitness? Do I just finish the plan and then pick one of the Train Now workouts TR suggests? Or is there a way to extend my current plan a couple weeks?
Technically I have a fat bike since I can run 3.0 tires. It does look fun. However, I don’t have the time or means to manage the post ride maintenance. How do you clean off all the salt and grime when hoses are frozen? Just putting my bike on back of my car and driving it to the trailhead will have it get covered in salt. And then all that winter gear, soaked in sweat, needs to be immediately washed or it will stink. It seems like I would spend more time washing and drying gear than riding. So how do you manage these issues?
Bike can be washed in the tub / shower too. Or, just get a 5 gallon bucket, fill it up, bring it out and pour over your bike.
I have a hose that attaches to a utility sink in my basement and stretches out into the driveway with hot water, and I’m still lazy. I just ride the trainer. If it were me, I’d just pick another 2-3 week block of V02 Max work or something like that.
Personally I manage them by not owning a Fat Bike or riding outside during the winter months… Sure I would love to, but it just sounds like too much work
Back on track though - if you have a good routine going for riding inside you could add another plan. Or depending on how long you think it’ll be till you can ride outside just use TrainNow.
