Moxy Summit - Only Posting Because Some of the Presentations Look Interesting

PSA - not connected to Moxy:
Our Moxy Summit is just 3 weeks away. This year’s summit is online and free of charge, but you do need to register. Click on the following link to get signed up. We have an awesome line-up of speakers covering topics from critical load to VO2. We will have a couple of new product announcements as well.

Anyone planning to listen in this year? (Starts tomorrow)

I have had one for over a year… It is in fact interesting.

At the end of the day, I find RPE, power, and heart rate to be sufficient, but the Moxy can provide a good data point to verify zones and keep you “in range” when doing efforts. I think interpretation of the moxy data is where we have the most work to do, it’s still way behind interpretation of HRV, which IMO still isn’t totally figured out. I think we will need a lot of athletes and coaches trending data for a while before we can draw solid conclusions about everything it can tell us.

I’ve been Moxy curious for a while. I had been hoping for a sale or maybe it getting to under $500 as the technology improved or got cheaper. Instead, it just got more expensive after Covid!

My understanding is that it can be used for testing - zones, thresholds. It offers similar insights as a lactate meter but is easier and doesn’t cost a $2 for every stick.

My understanding is that you can look at the slope of the smo2 curve and do guided intervals (tempo, threshold, Vo2).

I think this aspect super interesting. I seem to recall the Norwegians using it for their ‘lactate’ controlled threshold sessions.

As cool as it may be, I can’t justify $1000 for one. If there were any studies showing substantial increases with muscle oxygen guided training, I might be on board. For now, I found my aerobic threshold/VT1 with dfa alpha1 and breath rate. I can find my 2nd threshold / FTP with the Kolie Moore test. As far as guided intervals and training, I’m still on my own.
