Minimum for Dynamic Endurance

Is there any way to set a minimum duration for dynamic endurance sessions? When I switch my long ride to dynamic, it recommends fewer hours than I have done in over 6 months. My Saturdays have been between 3–5 hours since June of last year, and over 4 hours for the past 6 weeks. When I set it to dynamic with 5 hours as the maximum, it recommended 2h 45m.

I would love to set a minimum of 3 hours, with 5 hours as the maximum. Is this possible? If not, I will just set it as fixed and increase it manually, but that seems to defeat the purpose. I’m starting to wonder if TR is biased against higher volume. Is there anyone using TR who is prescribed 15+ hours per week?

It looks like we’re progressing you to 4-hour rides over the next couple of weeks, but given your recent history, you’re obviously ready for them now.

There’s no way to set a minimum duration that I know of, but let me dig into this.

Hi Eddie, I rebuilt my training plan due to an issue with two a-races on the same plan, albeit 5 months apart. When I rebuilt the plan, it seemed to reset the dynamic volume. It had me at 4 hours, with the dynamic option until I made these updates. This seems like a bug to me for sure. Previous training history certainly should be taken into consideration with these dynamic options.

My strava friend!! I have had a terrible time with dynamic endurance. Personally I have regularly rode 4-6 hours once a week for years and dynamic pushes me to do like 90min easy spins, I hate dynamic endurance, and even more so hate the copy they use to describe it “ramp up as your fitness improves” that’s just not true and is misleading. If anything the biggest flaw I am seeing with TR in general is just an aversion to volume. Many of us don’t actually give a crap if less is more for our fitness, I like to ride my bike and want to ride it as much as I can. Even if that means I am slower

That’s a bummer to hear. Manually adjusting it might be the best way to go.

Obviously, there’s more to fitness, and especially bike racing, than FTP. Durability, particularly for long-course road racing and multi-day stage racing, is a huge part of the equation. I make sure I’m still showing up to my intensity days feeling sharp, and I look closely at my long rides for heart rate drift and stability, etc. Last year, I averaged just under 600 TSS per week, with a single-day ride of 675 TSS. I’m not looking to ramp up my volume haphazardly, but one of my goals this year is to increase volume. At 41, it’s one of the few levers I can pull. Show me any top-tier racer who isn’t routinely putting in 15+ hours. I’m sure there are a few, but most are putting in the time.

This is a little off topic, but related. What happens if dynamic endurance calls for 2:45 duration but I ride several shorter duration routes on Zwift (ending one ride and immediately begin another) that end up at the 2:45 - 3:00 hour mark while adhering to the planned intensity throughout? Will this be seen as just the duration of the first route or will AI actually sum the days total duration?
