Minimizing interruption post-surgery?

Any tips for training while recovering from wrist surgery next week? I’ll be in a cast for 6-8 weeks so interval work will be limited, but riding hands off should be ok for recovery and endurance rides. I’m currently in base phase, but it would be nice to be able to at least maintain my fitness then jump into a build as soon as the cast is off.

I tossed some aero bars on the trainer bike, but I’ve never really been able to tolerate aero position for more than 20ish minutes. Maybe if I change back and forth between the bars and sitting up it’ll be ok? I’m suddenly envious of the recumbent folks!

Anyone have some first hand (or, one hand ) experience to share?

Thanks

While it was not wrist surgery I did have hand issues. Swollen hands. Could not even open a jar. I could rest my hands on the tops but not much strength to hold the bar. I raised the nose of my saddle a bit so pedaling upright was a lot more comfortable. I found spinning faster was better at getting power. Once I got to the point where outside was do able I adjusted the lever reach just about all the way in.

Good luck with the surgery.

Nice! My PT actually recommended that exact setup: stepladder in front of the bike
