Mazda CX5 owners: boot space question

This is a question that could only be answered on a forum like this

In the early planning stages of a cycling trip to Switzerland for next year. Would be renting two road bikes, probably both 52cm frames. One of the cars Enterprise offers is Mazda CX5. Question: with back seats folded down, could you lay two road bikes in the boot (and close the lid). We’ll put padding btw them. I’m just wondering if there is space. Would front wheel have to come off top one? both? still room for a small bit of luggage and two skinny biker peoples? I guess another option would be to buy a cheap trunk rack, but prefer safety and security of having them inside

I can fit a 54 cm gravel bike without taking the wheel off, but it’s helpful to take it off. The second one is no big deal, plenty of room vertically.

My wife has a CX-9…we often take it to bike races where I put my mtb and roadbike in the back but I have to take the front wheels off. The CX-5, being much shorter, I doubt you could fit two bikes in the back.

No problem. I’d probably just take the front wheels off both for simplicity sake though. Blanket in between.

I think you’ll probably need to take the front wheels off….but no problem getting two bikes in.

My daughter has a CX-5 and I have used it to get my bike in a case to the airports with plenty of room.
