Madone SLR seatpost / ISOspeed HELP

Thanks! Got it too late in the season (we got 3 inches of snow the day after I took that picture) so I’ll only be able to finally try it next spring…

This is exactly the reason I do not buy Trek bikes anymore. Their seatpost design suck. I had my seat post mast replaced twice. Way better off buying a bike with a standard seatpost design.

I have to agree. But it’s all in hindsight. Didn’t k ow there were so many problems when I bought mine, should’ve done more research… hoping the isoflow suspended seat tube is strong enough…

So here is my ISO story… but long story short, Trek did great.

Bought my 2020 Madone SLR 7 Etap from a Corporate store. Had bb90. About 400 miles in, my force chainring came apart and cracked the frame. Sram took ownership of failure and paid trek for a new frame. This was spring of 2021. It was a P1 Paintjob ~500 bucks for paint. Sram also upgraded the chainring to Red.

Ended up with a 21 SLR frame, painted alchemy Amplified ($1500 paint job) with T47 BB ( i think i had to pay for this bb). Put about 6k miles on this frame. Mostly road riding and 2 crits. Zero crashes. Did have to replace the knock block 2-3 times and the first time the fork went into the frame caused paint damage :/.

Well my first ride this spring (Feb 24), I felt seat post swaying. I took the bike back to the same store. They found the post cracked at the iso pivot point. 2-3 weeks later I had a paint matched seat post in my bike under warranty. They also did all new hardware and the special lock tight compound. About 50 miles later, it started to sway a tiny bit. I though this was just normal as I hadn’t ridden the bike since the fall before. Took it on a training camp and found it was really swaying. Took it back to trek after only having it for 2 weeks after the seat post replaced. They determined the iso was now out of spec.

Welp, I’m about 10 days away from a new Gen 7 SLR frame with Crystalline Prismatic paint P1 paint. Trek has been pretty solid this whole time. Some questions about the whether the old Madone 2-piece handlebar fits and have offered to pay cost for new Gen 7 bar.

I think I will only buy new for my carbon frames forever(unless its an insane deal). Trek has been solid about getting me even when their product fails. I wish good luck to everyone but I would def not buy a used Gen 6 frame. I race an Emonda alr frame and plan on buying a new ALR or Allez sprint next for racing.

I’m also not the lightest guy,5’10 177cm at 90kg or around 200 lbs. but well below the 275 system weight for the bike. I ride a 54cm but could ride a 56.

Hello, I’ve just picked up 2020 stock new trek madone sl6. I’m affraid it is a warranty issued model, that somehow got out of warehouse.
How to set isospeed to prevent it from failure? Set it at most rigid position? Apply threadlocker, even it’s working fine for now?
Best regards!

I bought a Madone SL 6 Di2 in the fall. The winter came super early in Finland so i wasn’t able to ride it outside for more than maybe 500km. Well the seatpost got loose eventually (a lot of side to side movement). I had the LBS do the first service when i noticed the loose seatpost, i spent the whole winter on the trainer inside and didn’t have any issues after the service (they only tightened it).

But now when the spring arrived i cycled 100km outside and the seatpost got loose again and was almost as bad as in the fall when the bike was nearly new.

The LBS told me today that they will swap the bushings/washers and that will be the warranty fix. I really hope it will be the final fix that actually works because i’m going to live in an other country the whole summer until the fall. I’m probably screwed if the seatpost issue appears again during the summer when i’m in a whole different country.

I should have the bike back in 1½-2 weeks. I’ll post updates if this solved my issue. The problem is that i’m heading to the other country in the end of May. It will be very difficult to get in enough kilometres to test the solution before i move.

Edit: Well the bushings/washer kit that they ordered is now backordered, it might not show up until the end of May and that would result in me having to ride with the bike with a seatpost that gets loose regularly.
