Low Max Heart Rate: A good thing for ultra endurance?

Hi there!

I was wondering what Coach Chad knows about athletes who have a (relatively speaking) low max HR and also low HR whilst working hard on the bike.

I bring this up because it relates to me and it came up in this video.

I am 30 years old, FTP of 355 and currently weigh 88kg. I have been riding 10 years and have NEVER seen my HR go above 152bpm… and even 150 is rare for me. Typically when working around threshold I am in the 130s

What does this all mean?!

It means that’s the way you are. Some have very high average and max heart rates, some have low levels, and some are somewhere in between.

Its more important how long you can hold your max heart rate than the actual number.

Are you any good at ultra endurance? Best way to find out is to do it
