Let's see your paincave!

Frat house basement ? Beer pong during your rest intervals or is it vo2 intervals for the beer pong losers :joy:

Fans… I put one at 2 o’clock and another at 10 o’clock. One is aimed at the torso while the other is mostly torso w/some to the face. Your body is what needs to stay cool. Your face feeling a bit of wind helps mostly w/RPE than w/cooling.

FWIW, I have a single Lasko blower mounted high above my laptop (similar placement as yours), about five feet behind it. My setup is here, fan is on top of the fridge in the third pic.

What is the preferred matt to go under the bike called? I’m about to rip-up carpet in a spare bedroom and make it into a home gym, pain cave, bike storage room.

I don’t have experience with them myself, but lots of people I know swear by barn/horse stall mats.

I bought some that get used in garages a lot. Because it interlocks it’s easy to fit and move around.

N + 1 here. These mats are great value. In the USA, Tractor Supply horse stall mats are often seen in DIY gym builds. Work great under rollers or a trainer. The standard matt is 4 x 3 feet. They have a larger 6 x 4 as well.

The horse stall mats don’t interlock like gym flooring so if using multiple mats next to each other, a nice little hack to keep them together is to use a roofing truss plate. You could also screw them down or glue them to concrete but that is more messy and/or requires drilling into concrete.

These mats will all outgas a bit of smell. Our local TSC stores them outside so often they are done outgassing when purchased. But if concerned, buy them and leave them outside for a couple weeks.

Let’s give Alan Thrall some love:

DIY Weightlifting / Deadlifting platform

Hey Frater. Tau Phi chapter here

Horse stall mat for me from tractor supply if you are in the US

And here in Canada, you can get the 4x6 ones at Lowes, and can confirm they stink for months (I used one for a deadlift platform.

Yes they can stink for a few but great value for what you get

Finally got around to the Trainer purchase mainly due to Covid lockdown, winter and gyms being shut. Moved somethings around in the bike/back room. I’d imagine (after seeing some pics) this will always be a work in progress. With the door open, window open next to me, 1 fan & 1 air mover, the temp will drop by 10 degrees C, outside winter temps help too.

Equipment:

  • VacMaster fan controlled by Devolo remote plug via iPhone App
  • IBRA iPad/iPhone Stand Clamp Mount Holder
  • ThermoPro TP55 Digital Indoor Hygrometer Thermometer
  • Lifeline Sweat Net
  • Garmin 1030+ (cause one device will sometime fail)
  • Wahoo Kickr
  • TrainerRoad off iPhone (synced to Strava)
  • Sennheiser earphones playing (Rich) Solarstone Podcast
  • Marmotte cheer leader
  • Sweatbands & headbands galore

All of the other stuff is not needed, just the Marmotte cheer leader! Kidding aside, great efficient use of a small space.

I’ll bet that little guy is easily worth an extra 45 second on the ramp test

Be careful with those interlocking foam tiles, they soak up sweat and cleaning product so after 2 weeks of being down you get a nice slime on the underside which after 3 weeks leaves a rather special aroma. A big rubber matt is far better.

? I have used interlocking tiles for years, and not had that problem.

Cleaning product? Cleaning product?

Just buy black and it won’t need any

These pictures don’t really do it justice, but I have spent a lot of time making this work for me. Note the position of the 4 fans. All of them on smart outlets so I can turn them on selectively via the Google Assistant. Two front facing on either side of the TV at head level, one aimed at the chest the other aimed at the face, one floor fan pointed up at my trunk, and one rear facing aimed at the back. A rocker plate, zwift, trainerroad, ethernet connection, ipad for spotify, phone for zwift companion, and plenty of reachable counter space for bottles, towels and food. And not to mention wall to wall rubber floors and a Rogue rack for strength training.

Super great looking setup!!!

Yeah I would like to get mats my home gym, but its in our spare bedroom. My brother bought horse stall mats for his garage gym about a year ago. He insists they don’t smell anymore, but he’s just gotten used to it. I can still smell it whenever I go in his garage. :joy:

A vice? You have a vice? Luxury!
