Fair point. But we don’t shoot people!
Well some do. Check out any weekend Group A ride and you’re likely to find a couple cyclists who take themselves too seriously.
I was shocked by a recent thread in my local mtb group. Based on the comments, I’d guess at least 25% of them are packing while riding. I live in Texas, so the numbers may be skewed, but politics aside, I don’t understand the motivation. In the time it would take you to stop, get the gun out, and respond, I feel like the threat would have already killed you. Seems to me you’d be far better off just pedaling away from the threat.
It’s not unheard of around here, though the ones I’m aware of carry something small, mostly in the event of encountering a rabid fox. Or to make sure nobody skips any pulls.
Now see I don’t have a problem here
I never understood packing while riding, if a car hits you the gun won’t do anything for ya. I live in Florida and have seen many deadly animals, even the wonderful “Florida man”, never felt the need. I don’t have anything against guns, I just haven’t seen a good enough reason. Maybe in a big city it would be necessary but it’s all personal choice.
Sorry for being off topic …
On topic, I wonder if Colin will ever race big events again?
I think Colin’s role may be more involved than we think….
It’s weird that his girlfriend was there 1 MINUTE after he left
I think previously it was implied that Armstrong followed either Colin or Wilson to the apt. It says he texted Armstrong after he dropped off Wilson. So it could be an innocent text to Armstrong or something more. Without the contents of that text it’s just speculating. But we certainly don’t have all the information the police have.
They were in the warrant linked in the previously locked thread.
From what I recall (don’t have time to read it again right now) she had followed them and knew he was not where he claimed he was in the text.

So the text was just him lying to Armstrong about where he was. Nothing sinister like “I dropped Mo off at her place”
hopefully it was “just” a jealous rage and nothing more sinister going on. The only other thing which makes me ponder is the fact that he gave/loaned? 450000 dollars to Armstrong and then asked for it back?
Hopefully and probably normal explanations for it. Just a sad story all the way around, so many lives ruined.
My 8yr old daughter recently began playing a Nintendo Switch game called “The Fall Guys”. When I told her I watched “The Fall Guy” as a child, she asked if the characters were the multi-color blobs from the game. When I explained to her that “The Fall Guy” was about a stuntman who gets into adventures and drives a cool Chevy truck that jumps obstacles she said it “sounded silly”. I responded that, yes, at times it was silly, but that truck was really cool!
I’ve only read the $450k thing in tabloid news articles. Fox reprinted it but I bet they just got it from less reliable sources.
I have a hard time believing that he just had a spare $450k to “give” her or that she had access to it. She was living in a hostel with 8 people to a room. That is not a sign of someone on the run with even a little bit of cash.
Maybe they had $450k in deposits from customers awaiting camper conversions? I could possibly believe that.
According to the articles the $450K was business investment money, not money laying around.
Don’t forget we can track each other on our iPhones. When my wife texts me, I can see her exact location. If he texted and said he was one place but she knew that was untrue…
I’m curious as to when when Colin figured out Kaitlin was the one who murdered Mo.
Did he know as soon as the news of Mo being killed was released? Did she say something to him the night it happened? Was it not until he was brought in by the police for questioning?
It’s wierd to think Kaitlin killed someone, assumingly for the first time, and went home to Colin like nothing happened.
Only if you allow it. There are other ways law enforcement can get a bread crumb trail historically. Approx. location via cell tower triangulation is easy to get from cell providers (and can be pretty accurate). More accurate location history via GPS or wifi usually requires law enforcement to have the phone in hand or they have to go to Apple or another app provider who is storing that data. That’s where you get into all the privacy debates.
In reality, it’s pretty easy to figure out travel history for someone who has a smart phone. All you need are the funds to buy the right data and some good data science skills. Everything you need is being sold by the app companies as “anonymized” data, but it’s pretty easy to associate the data with a name with a little social engineering. This is to look at where they have been historically, it doesn’t work for tracking in real time because the data that is being sold isn’t live. At least that’s how it was a couple years ago.
On a related note, I was wondering if K. Armstrong might have used strava to figure out where she is staying (and was just waiting for her to arrive back). Many pro athletes have open strava accounts. Most people I know will set up strava to hide their home location, but forget to do the same when travelling. I have no idea if Mo posted a ride from that location (maybe just got in town?), but it’s a real potential risk if someone wants to figure out where you are staying. Again, this is all speculation on my part. Such a sad, sad story.
I was saying Armstrong didn’t need to be sneaky, she could just watch him on his phone. It’s very hard for me to believe someone in that kind of relationship didn’t force him to turn it on if he wanted it off. My comment wasn’t about police.
I’m not a womanizing pro gravel racer, but, that said, if I’m headed to the LBS and my wife has told me NOT to go there, I know how to disable location services on my phone. IF I were to go purchase a wheel set that is not important to the household’s bottom line, I’d be sure to do that.
If phone location tracking is how she tracked him/them so closely… draw your own conclusions about Mr. Strickland’s willingness/stupidity in this situation.
There are numerous commercial products which could have aided in the surveillance through GPS or WiFi locating services… Think of an air-tag in the bottom of the motorcycle’s trunk bag or whatever…
considering he purchased a firearm for someone that wasn’t eligible to purchase it themselves, I think his willingness/stupidity has already been established.
