Is the Vegan cyclist a National Champion?

so you’re issue is a lack of participation? I’m pretty sure there was way more than that at 24 hr worlds TT in 2023 so that list is likely just members of WUCA.

Looks like 95 people/teams in the 24hr category.

People exaggerate their skills all the time to get “real” jobs. Or do you think that 25yo applying for a mid-level SWE job is really and ‘Expert’ in Javascript.

Assuming you mean GP Llama, he’s got more subscribers than him so I’m sure he’s doing alright.

Fair, but obviously lots of people like his stuff and watch it enough that it’s his full time job.

Can you be called out for something that you’ve talked about for literal hours on various podcasts and his own channel? He knows it’s not a USAC national champion, but some organization created a ‘national championship’ for a sport that didn’t already have one, he signed up, and beat all the other competitors. Not all national champions are the absolute best in the country, they’re just the best of those that showed up. He didn’t just ride around his neighborhood faster than his friend and buy a red, white, and blue jersey.

Not sure why the hate here. He’s a guy that makes interesting videos of him riding and racing that makes people excited to go ride their bikes. Is there some exaggeration? Sure. But I know me posting a video about how I did intervals again on the same road I do every week wouldn’t inspire anyone to ride more, so good on him for doing that.

Sorry tad busy to respond.

I’ll talk to VC next sat

Ok

Is “National Champion” a protected label? Seems like he is a national champion, just not a USAC national champ.

Not sure why it matters so much, guy went and competed, won and wears the jersey for winning that event. Sure it was not super competitive but not much he can do about that.

As rider in the rural West, I’ve always wondered if cars give people wearing USA jerseys more space. Like, “c’mon we’re on the same team? USA, USA, freedom, ca-cawwww (Bald Eagle screech that’s actually the sound of a Red Tailed Hawk!”

There is thread somewhere here about that and the anecdotal evidence seems to indicate “yes”.

not sure if this was posted but he responded to the question about whether or not his title was legit

actually a great overall interview also. the guy is super interesting and a deep thinker

the part about the title starts at 1:10 (one hour ten min)

My suspicion has always been that wearing an American flag jersey makes people think you are/were in the armed services/law enforcement, and there’s a good chance you’re carrying and/or have the ability to find you by your plates if you do something dumb. So, a powerful incentive to be extra careful.

you’ve given me an idea :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I think it’s just more that the people who are going to harass you on the bike will have their fervent nationalism override their hatred of cyclists and they’ll leave you alone.

Nope, they are a well known organisation in ultra cycling.

Yep, absolutely. I had that one in there but couldn’t figure out a good way to put it. You phrased it much better than I.

Since I’m in the process of writing my first book, I’ve put a lot of thought and a lot of reading into the question of whether or not I want to try to shoot for the best-seller lists.

From everything I know, what you’ve written here is incorrect. It is possible to game the best-seller lists, but it’s nowhere near as easy (or as cheap!) as you seem to think. Artificially getting yourself on the NYT list probably costs $200K. And they don’t count bulk orders, so they can’t “just buy a bunch themselves”.

I have read what it takes to set records on there site.

I find a record when people don’t take the same route to be not a record.

Bit like the TDF then?

If I take a cross state route to win the title and someone finds a way to do it in 50 miles less, are we comparing apples to apples?

The tour is a race and not a point to point title. These things are not the same

A record has a set of rules. Meet the rules and achieve the fastest , longest whatever and you become the record holder. It’s that simple. Moaning about it is just being a grumpy old fart.

What about the hour record?

Hour record is uci?
