Is the Vegan cyclist a National Champion?

I bought this from Backcountry 7 years ago. Because it was high quality, cheap, and didn’t look bad.

A guy in my club just checked the national champ box on his Voler order and got stars and stripe bands on his club jersey. Nobody in my club cared.

How dare you. Your Zwift/TR/and all other cycling related memberships have been revoked.

Even then, I’ll still be a national champion. When I wear the jersey.

I’d better hand wash it from here on out.

Now you’re just being a jerk.

I mean, they advertise it on their (Ultra Cycling Assoc.) page, I guess address your complaint to them?

Registration openend for this years “National Championship”(Hoodoo500) 8 months ago, and closes in two weeks… There are 6 men registered, so it looks to be the most competitive field in a while… (only slightly kidding).
I wish this was more of a thing in the US. As a roadie at heart, who has now transitioned pretty much exclusively into bikepack-racing, I’d be all for more of these, and I think originally I saw VC as racing his first one as an opportunity to get some fresh eyes and blood into the scene. Unfortunately it became immediately evident at the pre-race meeting the night prior(website gives you the gist of what to expect), I knew they were in for an uphill battle, and honestly didn’t seem at all receptive to ideas, which both VC and I presented, nor look eager to make any attempt at salvaging their sinking ship. Registration numbers have decreased year after year for a decade, while the average rider age has increased… That’s not sustainable.

Wearing that is cringe AND that club is shitty for acting like that. Why do cyclists smell their own farts so often

The last time I was a member was back in 2017 or so, where I did the monthly centuries and played around with a few longer rides. Soon after that, they changed their website around, and were a LOT harder to get any straight answers from, and when I tried to renew, I could never find a way.

I too wish this would be more of a thing in the US, and I think VC has the ideal makeup for it. I don’t understand all the VC hate - he’s never been anything but a positive force in producing HIGH quality adventure content. The Impossible Route content is my goto to send my non-cycling friends to try and get them excited about the possibilities.

Now, if we could talk him into Tour Dividin’, that’d be something else to watch, lol.

That is RAAM for you, their RAAM route hasn’t changed for years(there was a few changes this year) I’m shocked at what they have in their route through Missouri, I’m surprised more riders and crew haven’t been killed through there and they refuse to change it. Hell 2023’s route book was still claiming things according to 2020…

Ultra could be so cool and fun, but with the people running it, It seems to be a sinking ship destined to die.

I looked at Tylers USAC results and the only US National race he participated in was masters road and crit age 35-39 August 06 and 07 2022.

Also it’s strange the jersey he shows in his IG feed says “North American Champion”.

I like Tyler. I really don’t care what he wears. This performance is way better than I could ever do so kudos! If it makes him feel good I’m down with that. Personally, I’m not like that and I have always really looked up to Eric Marcotte. About the only National Champion I know who, besides when he had to wear the jersey, doesn’t wear any bands. But, to those who have won a nat championship and wear bands I think that’s cool too. You f’ing earned it! Be happy for each other.

Not to mention that I come across plenty people that exaggerate and misrepresent themselves to further their career on a daily basis, and it has nothing to do with being an influencer. Story old as time :man_shrugging: Do people somehow think that Tyler just records a 2 minute video and work is done? I’d be willing to bet the ratio for short format is 10-20:1, and at least 5-10:1 for long format media.

That’s what WUCA calls that championship.

Just to be clear because I couldn’t find an answer on the WUCA site…can any nationality enter and win? If so, what if a Canadian won?

I mean, they do call in North American champion, so I’d presume Canada can play. Not sure on the other stuff, they have a horrid website.

What?! Good lord…haha…what group ride was that, actually it doesn’t matter.

I do too and sure it matters. I need at least a modicum of integrity if the content he’s producing is supposed to be more than reality show like entertainment. For example, I have never once thought: “does this Ray dude know anything about bikes anyway”. Or “why is Shane claiming this or that”. If I think it’s valuable to me, I watch. If not, another time. They haven’t given me a reason to be skeptical of the veracity of their claims, nor do I see any attempt to artificially bolster their brand. This is critical if your job is content creation. It’s quite literally a popularity contest. And yeah, it’s hard work.

One with two actual National Champions. One 68 years old (only way anyone can keep up with him), the other I’m not sure.

National? no. He did win the WUCA designated North American Ultra Distance Championship. I missed where it needs to be USAC sanctioned to be legit…he didn’t make it up. I do scratch my head why it’s the North American championship, but the jersey they hand out has no elements of Canada or Mexico…

Wuca is a different mess I do not want to articulate on.
