Thought: How about adding audio feedback at the start of each interval so that I can start the workout in TR put my phone in my jersey pocket and my earbud(s) in. Start riding and wait for Chad to tell me what to do?
Would personally like this feature as well for indoor rides. Even to get some additional information by audio instead of just text on the screen.
That should already be in place. I know it is on the PC/Mac app, and assumed it was in place on the mobile as well.
There are a series of beeps that sound (3 tmies?) about 3 seconds prior to each interval start, and then again at the final 3 seconds at the end of each interval.
Right, as I said, it must be associated with other info and learned. Thereās nothing automatic and it suffers issues with variability for so many reasons. But for those people who lack power data outside, it is about the best option available, and worth learning for outside training and racing needs.
Love the continued innovation on @Nate_Pearson and team. Love the general description but any chance of printable queue cards? This is what Iāve been making in Excel lately and it helps me learn the workout (usually tonths point I donāt even look at it). To me x minutes at x Watts vs general descriptions is easier to learn and folllow. I sort of enjoy thinking about the right segments for each workout outside, I may check what the outdoor thought is but still use the original from time to time. Thanks again for the awesome product and continued development.
On checking future Saturday rides and āBig Mountainā on Full Distance Triathlon Base it does not have an Outdoor equivalent⦠and I would prefer not to do 3hr on the trainer.
Can you confirm if there should be an outdoor equivalent?
If youāre totally happy with what you do today then by all means keep doing it . The only thing Iād say is for the aerobic outside rides Iād do the outside version unless you can really ride outside and pedal the entire time and not let the power drop.
I donāt know what paper the organizers used, but I did a granfondo and got a sticker label with cues, might have to print up some templates to manually write in cues.
As in the threads/requests asking for verbal instructions (in addition to the text instructions) of the workouts, that would be a tremendous undertaking, and very time consuming. It could be less than the pure instructional text, as many of the interval prompts could be standardized, but it would still take a ton of work and time. I donāt see it as being as beneficial when compared to other options that we hope are coming (head unit integration).
ā¦and then youād have internationalisation to deal with
Iāve not tried this myself, but I wonder if the built-in screenreader on a mobile device would announce the text intervals? Depends how itās surfaced within the app.
Iām willing to be convinced either way, Iām just summarising my understanding of the TR position.
Thereās lots of other factors - full body cooling from wind is different from a fan, bike skills, bike movement, body movementā¦I donāt know what the full list is, but I think we agree itās significantly different.
What Iām not sure about is your example, if I pootle about traffic lights etc interrupting, then get a couple of straight 20min@275W, is it really a significant difference in physiological adaptations I will get?
Iām willing to give TR the benefit of the doubt though. My outdoor power files are just a load of zig zags whether Iām just popping to the shops or racing Ironman.
I already simulate these kind of rides outside, if its the same period of time, same TSS, the majority in the same zones, with little if anything in the threshold/vo2/anaerobic zones, Iād say itās near enough. Iām looking forward with trepidation as to the TR alternative.
Iām curious about what will show up in TR Calendar after a structured outdoor workout has been completed? The map of unstructured outdoor rides from Strava or the Thumbnail of the TR workout?
Iām excited about the new feature but am really wanting integration with head units. However I do believe this had to be done first and is a great first step. Great work TrainerRoad team!
