šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰ Introducing Outside Workouts! šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

Match/associate your outside ride to Doty.

was going to ask how do I do that, but went back into calendar and it’s done it automatically, nice

So it’s really moving with the Wahoo integration! I thought the documentation from Wahoo would take forever for some reason…

really looking forward to this

Will headunit-integration mean, that the rides will record the gps location, speed, Altimeter etc. as well? I’m new to TR and did my first workout outside yesterday. I don’t know if I forgot to switch to outside workout but it did not record any gps data, although in the annoucement there are workouts showing with a map. So I assume the mistake was on my side.

Please include Virtual Power at your Wahoo integration…:pray::pray::pray::pray:

This is such a great feature for TrainerRoad. Now I can do my training outside

Did you record your ride with a mobile device and the TR app?

If so, there will not be any GPS data, even I’d you switch it to Outside ride.

You should be recording your ride with a regular GPS based head unit. Then upload it to a site like Garmin Connect or Stava. Finally, you want that site synced to TR and it will be pulled into TR automatically.

Basic info:

yes, with my phone + wahoo bolt

That’s what I did. I started the workout on my Bolt and the TR App simultaneously. After 90min the workout automatically uploaded itself to Strava. I rode back home, which took another 5min and manually stopped the workout on my Wahoo headunit, which uploaded the workout to strava as well. Now I have two workouts on strava - one from TR and one from my Wahoo Bolt. I have no idea how I can merge those two on TR or on strava. I even tried to manually upload the gpx file to TR, but it won’t show up as a workout. On strava for the TR workout it says indoor ride. So maybe I forgot to switch to outdoor training and that’s why the site refuses to add the gps data from the headunit? Just a wild guess

First thing I can recommend is to only record the ride on one device. Having two and attempting to upload via both apps is likely to lead to issues.

As chad advised - do not upload rides from multiple devices. Most platforms will reject / ignore the second upload.

To resolve the situation you can delete the rides from Strava and TR and then re-upload to Strava from the Wahoo Elemnt app. This should then trigger a proper sync to TR.
Note: you will of course lose the TR recording from your phone.

thank you @mcneese.chad and @Agglo for your responses. I won’t delete my TR workout since my powermeter was paired to my phone and thus power was only recorded within TR. I don’t know if I can connect my powermeter to both phone and headunit. If not, I don’t know how I would do workouts outside. Write down intervalls and tape it to the stem? Seems like I’ll be waiting for wahoo to support TR workouts. I wrote their support today. Maybe with enough demand from the community, we won’t have to wait much longer…

TR is actively working on their part (per Nate above).

Iā€˜m looking forward to this!

This is great news, I have an outdoor velodrome 5km away so doing TR workouts outdoors is feasible. Will all the Garmin features be available on my Garmin 820? Or do I need the newer 830?

Thanks!

820 will be fine.

You should be able to connect your PM to the Bolt via Ant+ without consequence for your second device. Just avoid Bluetooth (which is a 1:1 connection). Just disable automatic sync for one device and you should be good.

So the PM sends a signal through both channels (ANT+ & BLE)? I don’t think my phone supports ANT+… Have to try it out next time if I’m able to connect both headunit and phone. Will report back.

Most modern PMs transmit on both channels… depends on your model of course. Just connect it via BT to your phone and see if the Bolt can still connect to it. If it can - that’s Ant+.
Make sure to first remove the PM from the Bolt if it is already registered as a BT connection. Otherwise the Bolt may block the BT connection whenever you turn it on first.
My general rule is: I use Ant+ for all sensors (power, HR, cadence) with my head unit and leave BT free for my phone / tablet device (which in my case don’t support Ant+).

Hi, I have a question, how can I do these workouts outside but without a pwoermeter, I only have a Heart Rate Monitor to know what effort I’m doing, is there any table that converts for example 90% of FTP power is equal to a % of my Max Heart Rate?
I need to know these because I’m really bad doing workouts without a parameter, when I have power in my smart trainer its perfect, but outside I don’t know how to do, and doing them by RPE don`t works for me.

Thanks!
