I just used it and went from 230 to 241, forgot to take a screenshot so I got rid of the FTP change, tried it again and suddenly it said 230 โ 207, then did it again and it said 214??? Why is it just giving random numbers?
EDIT: And once more, now its 230-242???
EDIT: If it takes my training history, how does it come to different results within a few minutes?
Sorry to hear! When you added the Ramp Test, were you looking on the website or in the app? Since this is still Early Access, the feature only works in the apps (i.e. desktop or mobile) and will only be visible on the Career Page when the Ramp Test is your next scheduled workout. If you were already checking Career Page in the apps and still didnโt see the โUse FTP Detectionโ button, please let me know!
Are are getting similar reports from a handful of athletes and are trying to track down the bug. Your description including specific steps and actions is so helpful! Thank you!
Have you been able to access the feature yet, or are you still getting the Data Processing modal?
Thanks, Amber, yes, still DP mode. Support wrote me this morning that a fix has been issued, but Iโm not seeing any updates to download on laptop, Ipad, or Iphone.
Thank you! Iโm going to follow up on your support ticket - this will help our engineers get to the bottom of the issue. Iโm really sorry for the delay!
I contacted support, who has indicated that it should work the next time I go for my scheduled ramp test. I donโt seem to be able to test it out that thatโs the case and will just have to trust I guess
TR has a chart to help with the honesty.
I could complete the whole ride again = easy
I could complete 1-2 intervals again = moderate
I could complete 1 more interval = hard
I could not do any more = very hard.
I was just hanging on for my life = ?? the last choice.
Once I found this it really helps with appropriately classifying the workout.
IT would be really nice if TR put this guidance right on the screen when I score the workout.
I still need to be honest about how much more I could do. I tend to look at my hear rate.
At age 62 if I go into the 160โs = very hard, blow up into the 170โs = last choice.
150โs = moderate.
And this is on the last interval.
Once I started with the above; AI started adjusting my workouts to be some stress but accomplishable. And accurately predicted my FTP. It has been so much more enjoyable. Because before I could over test my ability. Like Jonathon said on the podcast FTP is not a ego trip, itโs just a way to get you into the right level of workouts.
Itโs a beautiful new feature. Congrats to TR.
Man, this is a long thread! Iโve looked and donโt see it but please forgive me if itโs been asked;
AI FTP is cool and all, but is a ramp test sill the better of the two options? Is the current thinking that FTP needs only be a rough guide so the ramp can go and just leave it up to AT?
For me, the typical โA Typeโ I want the best training so if a ramp test will get me that, thatโs what Iโll do. Thanks
This feature is what ultimately made me pull the trigger on a TR subscription. As a person who absolutely sucks at FTP tests of all sorts for some reason, I feel the AI detection is more accurate for me personally than if I was required to take a test.
Only one thing has already been a red flag for meโฆ It first scored me at 258 and then after doing Goddard -4 one time it increased me to 270. This is within about a 24 hour period from when I first activated it. That makes me question the accuracy a little. However, I will keep on with it to see how training goes.
As a possible improvement for FTP detection, would it be better (if at all possible) for TrainerRoad to assess FTP on a regular basis and provide a warning to the user when an increase or decrease is detected, as opposed to waiting for a scheduled ramp test to notify the user?
I donโt think that would be good. I mean we normally test every 4 to 6 weeks so i wouldnโt want to know my ftp has increased by say 1 or 2 watts all the time.
Hello, here comes a question related to AI FTP Detection.
My Ramp Test was not scheduled until a month later so in order to test the new feature I manually added a Ramp Test to my calendar. I found out that my FTP went up from 281 to 294W. This is completely in line with what I feel and what I expected.
My question is: should I accept the new detected FTP and let the Progression Levels take care of my training schedule or should I decline the new FTP and wait until the โproperly scheduledโ Ramp Test is on the schedule and accept the new FTP then? I feel that the workouts are really good right now and I donยดt want to disrupt the calendar by what I did.
Thanks!
I donโt tend to look at HR too much, especially for anything above threshold - obviously for VO2 workouts I expect my HR to be elevated at some point (otherwise itโs not really a VO2 workout) but that doesnโt necessarily mean the workout was particularly hard.
Obviously, if I am doing an Endurance workout and my HR is up in threshold then that is an issue
I am assuming the request was for only a change of more than a given amount, say >3% or >5 watts for example.
A 1 or 2 watts change isnt really a change, it is within the margin of measurement error (+/- 0.5 to 1% power meter, daily fluctuations, AI calculations, etc)
I would agree, I guess I was referring to Sweet Spot and Threshold. My plan has very little VO2 max. I also think the system knows if the workout was supposed to be easy or hard. And my personal ranking at the end is relative. If it was supposed to be a moderate ride and I rank it moderate I may not get an upgrade. Overall AI seems close to what I would think AI should be.
