๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ Introducing AI FTP Detection ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, along with what @Rizzi said. For me personally, aim for this year is crit racing where most of my early season (April) races will be 30-45 mins. Think iโ€™ll stick with the higher FTP now, and build from shorter intervals.

you can do what you like of course. when I read your story I think you could just do a ramp test and work from that FTP. get you to a point where you can finish your workouts sooner rather than later.

I have the same view. I find going deeper into the PLs gets me to the type of workouts that I find are what I need. I get a lot of benefit out of going longer. Who knows if it is just a mental aspect but being able to do longer sweet spot or threshold feels more satisfying.

Itโ€™s coming!

Yep. Itโ€™s in the works. We are internally testing a version of this right now.

For those who want this, just keep going through your progressions. Then when you are at the point where you donโ€™t want to go any farther, plop a ramp test down, have us estimate your FTP, and start the progression over.

As I think I said somewhere else, we can do some cool things to make it so we hit the correct progression levels for peak events. But this is just planned and we havenโ€™t started working on it.

Iโ€™d like to thank the TR crew for such a fantastic feature. Iโ€™m in the middle of an 8 week specialty block and felt like my FTP had went up about 5 watts. I was on the fence about testing since it would mean dumping a productive workout. However, I have a FTP goal for my event that Iโ€™d really like to reach so I was curious where I was. I used AI FTP on the day it came out and it gave me the 5 watt gain I thought I had. That being said, Iโ€™ve been able to nail every workout on what looked like a very tough week on my plan.

I recommend using the feature again in March when you get started. Iโ€™ll be so curious to hear how it feels for you! Please share with us!

A forthcoming update will make AI FTP Detection visible/accessible via Calendar and Career. The reason it is only on Career right now is just because we wanted to get this out to you all as fast as possible. Several improvements on the way!

Great feedback - noting this. Thank you!

I ran your data, and the model would predict your FTP at 258w today. Based on how youโ€™ve been feeling in training, does that sound right to you?

Wow, that is spot on for what I think my FTP should be right now. Nice work! And thanks for the reply!

Hey, just wanted to throw my AI FTP into the forum. Iโ€™m a 47 year old woman, regular TR user tho far, far from competitive. Iโ€™m currently following the low volume climbing road race plan and doing CrossFit 2-3x per week. I havenโ€™t taken an FTP test in a year or more and my power is read from a Kickr Core. Iโ€™ve been letting AT manage my workout intensity for the most part, and I picked an FTP initially based on RPE and what felt right to complete the workouts. The new AI FTP suggested an FTP within 3% of my RPE estimated FTP. So kudos to TR. As a masters women, adjusting to early meno and working a ton of weird shifts lately, the AI totally worked for me like it should. I appreciate being able to throw FTP management over the fence to TR so I can deal with training and working and kid and grandkid and dog and house upkeep โ€ฆ and โ€ฆ and

I just finished the last workout of my recovery week and I have a ramp test planned next Tuesday. Does it matter when I click the Estimate FTP button? Of course Iโ€™m curious to see what number it will come up with, but will clicking on it right now or waiting till Tuesday make a difference?

Nate mentioned a new feature on the podcast - when hovering over the progression levels itโ€™s possible to see where the numbers come from/what workouts influence the current progression. However, when the new FTP made the difference it says โ€œmanual FTP updateโ€ where in fact it was the recent AI FTP detection instead of manual. Just a detail but might be confusingโ€ฆ

Does AI FTP take into account the survey results from outdoor rides? I know progress levels for WAHOO are binary at the moment ( did you complete y or N).

Went from 335W (last ramp test) to 340W. Seems reasonable, I did a lot of Sweetspot and some sprints (Olympic Tri Base), and I felt quite good.

Also volume wise, the 5W increase makes sense, altough with all the swimming and running my bike TSS is lower the last few weeks.

Great Job with that feature, I think I will skip the ramp test in the future but try to do more โ€œraceโ€ specific benchmark tests (like outdoor flat 40k, or 2x20m)

You can look at the FTP using the feature today, and you donโ€™t have to accept it. Then you can check on the day of your Ramp Test and accept at that time, if you choose. Youโ€™re not locked in by clicking on Use FTP Detection. You can even opt to do the Ramp Test instead at that point, if youโ€™d prefer!

How did you mark the session after you finished the workout? Adaptive training should incorporate that feedback so that if you marked it as harder than AT expected you to, it will scale back your progression level and consequently what it suggests will be productive in the future.

I think they also said that for now Goddard is the automatic replacement for a ramp test, so strictly speaking the adaptive training may not have really estimated that it would be the right workout for you today.

Interesting case! I just ran your data, and AI FTP Detection model predicts an FTP of 8w higher than your current FTP. If you saw something different, it would really help to know, as that might help us identify a bug!
