๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ Introducing AI FTP Detection ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

I tried it on PC and Ipad. Both just went to this screen instead. See attachment

Did you turned on the option on the web?
Once you have do, you will need to have a test scheduled.
and from the career page on the mobile app or desktop app (not the page) you will be able to do the AI ftp

Thatโ€™s the app, not the web site. trainerroad.com.

  • No, that is not a requirement.

Make sure you have the ramp test on the current day. If there is another workout on the same day, there can be issues, so move any other workout a day ahead and recheck.

Also, there are some users with delays in access, and that could be the case for you.

My first slightly negative, kinda positive user experience today as I turned this on and my self adjusted FTP went from 260>257 that I agree atm with my own feelings. :+1:

For some of you stuck on the โ€œProcessing Dataโ€ view, if your Date of Birth is incorrectly set that could be a contributing factor for the issue. By incorrectly, I mean a value that is in the future or null. Correcting your Date of Birth may resolve the issue.

Go here to review your Date of Birth on Web: https://www.trainerroad.com/app/profile/rider-information or under โ€œAccountโ€ in the Apps.

I manually changed mine to 315 a few weeks back as I felt stronger than Ramp Test results were giving me. Did the AI computation and it bumped me just 1% from the manual 315 to 319W. Happy bunny and great job TR crew!

For AI FTP Detection to work, you have to have completed at least 12 workouts with power data. These can be custom workouts, workouts from the TrainerRoad catalog, or imported rides with power data.

My ftp was about 270 a couple months ago on my road bike, I manually bumped it down to 250 when I put my tt bike on the trainer for triathlon training. I just went back to my road bike and manually bumped ftp up to 275 a couple weeks ago and all workouts felt correct. Sure enough the machine said 274 so I guess right.

Thanks, but I have my entire ride history imported. From that statement it should be OK? Or does it have to be Trainer Road workouts?

Edit: got it to work, I had it scheduled for tomorrow instead of today. Oops!

TR has my FTP at 280w. I have even done a full 20 min test recently that gave me 305w, and have trained hard since then and my intervals.icu eFTP has gone up to 320w (min 4 min effort setting for the algorithm). That is possibly slightly high, but based on workout execution I would put it at around 310-315w. 280 is the lower end of sweetspot for me, its around my 70.3 power (2-2.5 hours). Less than 2 weeks ago I did 319w NP for 53 minutes.

For context for the model, I have never done a TR workout, but have a lot of history imported, including structured workouts for all energy systems, races and long endurance rides (up to 12 hours). I am a triathlete, so other disciplines no doubt influence fitness. Happy to share more context or data if it helps.

After just showing processing yesterday, today it works! :man_dancing:

The following will happen:

  • AT will drop your levels
  • Workouts should get easy enough that you start progressing upwards again

We will be closely tracking how athletes perform after accepting the detected FTP vs other methods of FTP estimation, including manual updates.

I agree that the wording in the instructions does leave room to think that itโ€™s sufficient to have only imported rides and no TR workouts, but that is not the case. You do need to complete at least 12 workouts on the TR platform.

EDIT: the 12 workouts can be imported rides with power data.

Mine doesnโ€™t appear to be working. I click use ftp detection, get a pop up, click got it, and then nothing happens. Itโ€™s been around 30-40 minutes and Iโ€™ve tried opening and closing the app, clicking it again etc.

I guess this is part of the long term plan to auto adjust.
You MAY think you are at certain level, but your performance say otherwiseโ€ฆso here is a new FTP that might help you crush the wo, instead of failing.

looking forward to all of it!

I was going to wait until my test in a couple weeks, but decided to try it out. I am in the 3rd week of general build 1 and it said i had a 3 watt (.9%) increase. This is probably correct as I was sick the first week of build and missed the Thursday and Saturday workouts, then in week 2 i couldnt do the Thursday o/u workout due to my legs being thrashed from 2 days of snowshoeing for work.

If I skip the ramp test when I start build 2, what would people recommend for a workout to replace it? I was thinking of doing the planned Tuesday workout from week 2.

I was literally wondering a couple weeks ago why a feature like this wasnโ€™t available since we have the adaptive training, this is awesome! Ramp test scheduled on Monday too!

Hmm OK. I think that wording will need to be changed, and also maybe a statement that for new signups it wonโ€™t be valid until they have done a number of TR workouts first (even though it is clickable and gives you a FTP).

Thanks, but unfortunately not the problem in my case.

I took a peak yesterday but I think people should wait 4-6 weeks as most people understand. I was going to accept my new FTP but Iโ€™m in the middle of SSB2 and want to finish it and then see where Iโ€™m at. That way i have better training progression of longer intervals which in the end will make my FTP grow. Just my 2 Cents :coin:
