Just wondering if a scripted indoor WO is better vs an outdoor mtb ride at elevation better for fitness? Seems to me the elevation would be more advantageous for fitness as well, for me, I personally love mtb at elevation.
Is there any hard rules and how does TR account for this?
TR has been an suprise for my racing results. But I still love riding outdoors as much as possible.
Short answer is that for your interval workouts - follow the structure. If going outdoors means you’re just riding MTB and having fun, not following the structure, then indoors on the trainer will be better.
There is a time and a place for unstructured rides too, but that’s the gist of it.
Elevation / altitude doesn’t really factor into this, other than “Train Low, Sleep High” - lower elevation allows you to do more work, train at higher powers because altitude effectively lowers your FTP.
