Well that’s not true. We know “It was not a voluntary departure”.
What a load of rubbish speculation!

Unfortunately, when you know someone who co-founded a company was terminated without any details about why, assumptions like these are going to be pretty frequent.
I can only think that something rather horrible life wise has happened and Chad needs to leave, for example, to care for a family member.
Rather than blurt out any personal information, the HR phrase that it wasn’t voluntary, I think still works. Chad didn’t want to leave, TR didn’t want him to leave, but he needs to.
I feel very sad that one of the original members has left. I think I’ve been listening to the podcast and using TR for about 10 years now. So it’s going to take a while to get used to new things.
As a silly hopeful finish, maybe there was an episode of Beers With Chad that got completely out of hand
AI truly is coming for our jobs… You’ve been warned
I hope not.
What about the simplest answer: TrainerRoad revenue, like so many tech service companies, is under a little bit of pressure. TrainerRoad are having to make some tough decisions.
It’s my sincere hope that Chad is in a good enough situation that this doesn’t disrupt his life too much.
Now, on to some real speculation: IS THERE A NON-COMPETE??
This, this right here. I’m so pissed. The AI taking our jobs from hard working Americans? Absolute joke here, unbelievable that this can happen. We should build a firewall and make Google pay for it.
Agree
After Amber and Pete left, I found that I only really listened to episodes with Chad. I felt like he was the “grown-up” and without him there, more bro-science, opinion, and N=1 data found its way into the discussion. I’ve gained a ton of thought-provoking insight from his deep dives and am thankful for that. I wish Chad the best of luck and hope that he’s able to find a new way to share his wealth of training knowledge and science-backed explanations with the cycling community.
It could be a layoff type of decision as well, I can only imagine is salary being pretty good. Salary inflation hit everyone and during the glory days of the pandemic i’m sure he commanded a good wage.
But as a co-founder i don’t know how this could be structured. (though technically didn’t Nate really start it as the widget that you could read power on your laptop whilst watching a moving on your laptop?) That’s how i remember it. Chad came in next for technical and of course the plans that we all know and love.
We may never know what truly happened. I will say that that the last few appearances on the pod with Chad you could tell he had lost some of his mojo, and likewise Nate seemed stressed (but that could be the perpetual state of the leader). I can’t imagine the non-compete being that air-tight and i susspect he’ll be coaching on some level sometime soon. They have to let him make a living
I had a similar comment a while back. Podcast has lost its spark recently. Just felt more and more like an advertisement for the app, which I’m already paying for. Much less something I look forward to every week.
Maybe we can get a spinoff Beers with Chad/Gears with Chad podcast.
Recently Tadej’s trainer posted a rebuttal to using bicarbonates for muscle recovery purposes… can TR look into this for a follow up?
Just came here to say that I appreciated Chad so much. Got to know him through the podcast and he really stood out. He has so much experience, was well read, and could apply the science to practice.
I think a lot of why I started TR is due to Chad and I feel very connected to him through the workouts.
Besides he is an inspiring athlete and human being for as far as I got to know him. And just think of beers with Chad that brought us through pandemic start.
Pity he’s not longer with TR, of course wishing him the best for his future.
Yes there are issues with any message. I need to listen to the podcast to get the wording but as an employer I cant ever say anything about someone leaving other then they have moved on without there agreement to the message. Now I am in Canada and not the US.
As much as I’d like to believe there wasn’t a falling out between Chad and the rest of TR, I don’t see this as plausible. When Pete left for family and life reasons, they were very straightforward about the reason. They’re being intentionally vague in this case.
And then there’s the weird censoring and removing of almost every mention of Chad on the website.
“Coach Chad’s Strength Training Benchmarks for Cyclists”
got changed to just “Strength Training Benchmarks for Cyclists”
His bio page got removed.

This isn’t just him leaving. TR is actively removing his existence from the company. Not a good sign.
Sounded like Nate got Chat GPT to write his statement because no way would a human compose something so cold and soulless and think it was a good idea. Bad move IMO.
The chillow page is still up https://chillow.trainerroad.com/
This is the first I’m seeing this and has made my day.
