I’ve got my first training plan workout which is harder than anything I’ve done before (Sweet Spot 1.4 vs Endurance 1.4). What should be the tragedy for turning down the intensity if I can’t keep up? Any problem with turning it down mid ride?
A good article to review:
Generally good advice. If the OP is new to structured training and to cycling in general, I think I’d advise turning the intensity down if they need. Try it at full intensity, but turn it down or use one of the bailouts. If they’re totally new, then their FTP may have been mis-estimated and they may not have a good sense that it is mis-estimated.
Hey there and welcome to the TR community!
It looks like you’ve done a Ramp Test before and used AI FTP Detection recently, so that should mean that your FTP is accurate right now.
If your FTP seems correct, ideally, you shouldn’t have to change a workout’s intensity. I’d second what @Weiwentg said – try it at full intensity first!
Go into the workout adequately rested, well fueled and hydrated, and approach it with a positive mindset. You got this! ![]()
Don’t give up before you start. Opening the door for failure makes it easily accessible when things do get hard. I’d psych myself up to NOT fail. If you do fail, only fail after you’ve given everything you have.
No. If you can not continue at the current level turn it down. Training intensity should be a progression over time.
Now if they are all too hard then something is amiss.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I was able to finish without any modifications (
) though my FTP was reduced by 5 at the end.
