How to Disable FTP Prediction & AI Training Simulation when NOT Using TR Plans?

I would also like to disable it because it is frustrating and demotivating.

At the beginning of a training block, I am shown a future FTP that is far too high. With every workout, the AI FTP decreases until it falls below the FTP I had when I started the training block.

Then I complete an FTP test. One day later, the AI detects an FTP that is significantly lower than the value established in the FTP test the day before. Every day, I am asked whether I want to accept it. At the same time, it predicts another extremely high FTP three weeks into the future, which then decreases again with every workout, and the whole cycle starts all over again.

And yes, I know there is a bug related to outdoor workouts, but that does not make it any less annoying. It is an unnecessary feature, and after every workout I find myself getting frustrated by the nonsense the AI comes up with.

You can click on the FTP Prediction on your calendar and turn it off if it’s distracting/frustrating you.

Hi Eddie,

Unfortunately, this does not prevent AI FTP Detection from suggesting a new FTP—and the feature is extremely inaccurate.

For example, I completed an FTP test and got a result of 159 W. Three days later, TrainerRoad detected an AI FTP of 152 W. I have to reject this suggestion every time, and I cannot get rid of it permanently.

Then I had a very good outdoor ride, after which TrainerRoad detected an AI FTP of 169 W. I accepted it. From that point on, I was unable to complete a single workout. TrainerRoad could no longer find any suitable workouts for me and wanted to estimate my FTP again. The result was 132 W.

I rejected that estimate because I knew from my FTP test only a few days earlier that my FTP was 159 W. I therefore entered 159 W manually. Now I am not being given any workouts at all, and TrainerRoad says it needs new data—either by using the completely inaccurate estimated FTP of 132 W or by requiring me to complete another FTP test, just one week after my previous test.

I have now been training with TrainerRoad for over eight weeks, and I have had nothing but problems with this AI FTP feature:

  • My training is constantly being interrupted.
  • I am being forced to complete FTP tests that I do not want to do.
  • I constantly have to dismiss notifications, and as soon as I accidentally select the wrong option, I have to start all over again.

I simply want to complete my scheduled workouts and receive support from TrainerRoad, rather than constantly having my training disrupted. This AI feature is completely unreliable, unhelpful, and highly disruptive, and users must be given the option to disable it.

It feels like a feature in a very early beta stage that does not work properly in combination with outdoor training, yet there is no way to turn it off. In its current state, TrainerRoad is not properly usable.

I’m going to take a look at your account now. Can I share what I find here in this thread?

We’ll get things working for you! Hang in there!!

Maybe you can fix my main problem first:

Unfortunately, after I accepted the AI FTP of 169, every training was to hard. I then manually set my FTP back to 159. That was my ramp test 2 weeks ago. Now TrainerRoad no longer finds any workouts.

If I have my FTP recognized

TR wants to my FTP zu low. That makes any training pointless, since my FTP was tested 159.

However, I can’t train with FTP 159.

We already had this problem at the start with TR. There is no outdoor FTP test. I don’t have an indoor trainer here.

With that, AI has again crahsed my entire training, and I can’t workout.

Perhaps you can find a solution that lets me simply enter my known FTP and continue training. Since I have already encountered this problem, I assume it won’t work. Since I also don’t have access to an indoor trainer to perform a ramp test, I stopped using TrainerRoad at that point.

I’ve got some insights as to how to help..

Can I share them in this thread? I don’t want to share any of the details of your training without your permission. :innocent:

Yes, please do so.

Are you using different power meters when riding inside vs outside?

It looks like there are some major power discrepancies between the two types of activities..

On the 22nd you rated an outside workout with an IF of 1.13 as hard. Then on the 28th, you failed a level 0.5 Threshold workout becuase of workout intensity after one set of over unders.

Your FTP did jump up after that outside workout because seeing that 1.13 IF told us that clearly your FTP was higher, but then you failed the indoor workout with a 10 watt higher FTP.

I think the model is confused becasue it’s tried a handful of things and none of them seem to be working out.

We need to figure out which power source to trust and then knock out a workout that feels appropriately hard to get things back on track.

I know, that your model is confused.

Do you have any solution, how I can set my FTP to 159 and continue with TR? I know my FTP. I just want to train. We can train your AI after that and look into its confusion.

Like I said in my previous post. I think the way forward for you is to:

  1. Check your power devices to ensure that they are reading at least somewhat close to each other (within the manufacturer’s spec) so that your riding outside doesn’t invalidate your inside data or vice versa.
  2. Load up something like a level 3 threshold workout with your FTP set to 159 and give it a shot. Completing a workout that feels hard and telling the model that it felt hard should be enough to get it going in the right direction. Right now, it has no idea which data to trust – your outside rides or your inside ones.

The first step is important here. Without that, you’ll likely just confuse the model again. Your outside ride data is showing that your FTP is wayyy higher than your inside data is, so getting that sorted out is key.

Thank you for your answer.

As I said, TR currently doesn’t let me do any workouts at all with my FTP of 159. Honestly, I have no desire to set the AI FTP to 132 right now and then do some workouts to try to convince the AI to return to my FTP of 159.
I also don’t want to cancel my training camp just to be able to take an indoor test at home again.
And I also don’t want to have to worry every time I stop a training that the AI go crazy.

I am still paying the month in full, without being able to do any training. For winter indoor training, I’ll see, if AI works better.

As I suggested two months ago, it would be sensible to ultimately give the human and/or their trainer the ability to override the AI. Especially when the values are so obviously wrong, as detected by the AI. TR is not an inexpensive software. I’m happy to pay the price if it lets me train better. But I’m not the babysitter of a faulty AI model.

Current status: Neither support nor you can help me continue training with my correct FTP. Therefore, I wish, like many other users, that AI can be disabled.

Are you using the same power source indoors as out?

No I don’t.

But that’s not the reason, and to be honest, I’ve been working with support on that for a while now. I can explain why AI gets this wrong. But I just can’t correct it. TR seems unable to provide a solution, only to attempt explanations as to why its AI is responding incorrectly.

But that doesn’t enable me to train. Parallel will continue to charge my monthly fee.

Therefore, I have cancelled my plan and will wait the next two weeks for a solution. Otherwise, in a few months I will check again whether TrainerRoad has either discontinued the AI beta test or has since gotten the AI under control.

If there is a large mismatch between the two could that not explain the issues with the ftp being detected as a different number than you think it is?

No.

The reason is that my FTP is 159.

This allows me to produce higher power for a short time on the flat. So I have no problem hitting 250 W for 10–20 seconds, as long as I can recover at 140 W afterward. That works very well at cool temperatures on flat, gently rolling terrain.

That is why TR AI identified an FTP of 169 a few days after the FTP test following this ride. Since the training seemed too easy for me, I accepted it as a test.

Even if I can make short power kicks, I can not sustain higher power numbers for an extended period. Because of the now incorrect FTP of 169, I already missed the first workout. TR then made the workouts easier.

During the next workout, I realized that it doesn’t help. After about 15 minutes I stopped, aiming to set the FTP back to 159. I wouldn’t been able to complete this workout again. TR asked why I quit it, and I said that it was too difficult.

This is the reason why AI now estimates my FTP at 132.

But the support also knows that.

The thing is: I can no longer set the FTP to 159 without another RAMP test. Alternatively, I can accept the FTP from 132.

And I understand that I now can train with 132 w for as long as needed until the AI detects a new FTP. But I just want to continue my training plan now. I don’t want to run a new FTP test. On the one hand, I don’t have an indoor trainer here. On the other hand, I don’t want to give an all‑out performance now, only to have to recover from it again. For the same reason, I don’t want to run any training with All‑Out now, so that the AI detects the error. I would have to recover again and lose training time.

That wouldn’t be a problem if it were a one-time action to correct the AI again.

But the AI constantly misidentifies the FTP.

Already during the first training, two days after the FTP test, AI wanted to correct the FTP to 152. The reason was that during training, in the warm‑up phase, I had short breaks to adjust the angle of my saddle.

That is why I am asking here repeatedly how I can disable it. That’s why I’m asking if I can resume my training simply by entering the correct FTP value.

That does not seem possible at the moment.

It’s not exactly the solution that you are looking for (don’t have an answer for that unfortunately), but what you could do is just increase the intensity at the beginning of the workout to match your actual FTP. Once you’ve completed the workout rate it as “easy” or “moderate” and that should get the Ai to quickly adjust your FTP up.

Someone correct me if I’m mistaken here, but for now I think that’s probably your best course of action.

Just a question for my personal understanding:

When I turn the AI Prediction Off, the whole Ai system still works in the background to recommend workouts for me, correct? All I turn off is the visual on the website/app?

Because I’m also one of the people that’s insanely annoyed by that number. Just today I completed a fairly hard VO2Max workout and rated it “Very Hard”, which resulted in the FTP Prediction to decrease. Feels fantastic to power through a hard workout just to be punished for completing it by the prediction to be lowered  Real motivational boost. Would very much prefer to do just do the workouts and not having to deal with the prediction feature every time I log in.

You are correct, you can turn just the prediction off and the rest of the system still works.

You can do workouts with your FTP set to 159. I just scheduled one for you for today from the workout library.

We aren’t able to prescribe workouts to you right now because we have a bunch of conflicting data about your fitness.

We weren’t assuming your FTP was 169 because of a few short power kicks, though. As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, the Intensity Factor of your outside rides was above 1.0, which tells us that the power data from those rides would suggest a much higher FTP. If I had to guess without knowing anything about your power sources (this info would help) I’d say that your outisde power meter is reading much higher than your indoor one.

Completing the workout that I scheduled for you today will likely have a good effect on us detecting your fitness, but again, the cause of this issue is very likely the two different power sources you’re using. Could you please share some info about them with me? What type of devices are they? Are you calibrating them to the manufacturer’s spec (method & frequency)? Have you run them side by side to see if there is a discrepancy between them?

I’m confident that we can get you on the right track; I’d just need a little help from you.

Let me know your thoughts.

I think I may have just solidified my theory. :light_bulb:

I removed those two high-IF outside rides from TR AI’s consideration, and you now have workouts prescribed. :raising_hands:

The powermeter that you use for outside riding is likely causing issues.
