How Tight Should a Cycling Base Layer Be?

I just bought a base layer for the first time. I’m curious how form fitting this type of base layer typically is?

I sized it according to the size chart (medium) and it’s definitely snug but not restrictive. Is this typical?

Any I wear basically fit like skinsuits. I generally only wear sleeveless as my outdoor morning rides start cool and end up plenty warm.

Tight is right, and one element to how they work as intended. They need to be held firmly against the skin to perform at their best.
