How sensitive is the AI detection?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering how sensitive TrainerRoad’s AI FTP Detection is when you don’t follow a prescribed workout exactly.

On my outdoor rides, I often have to deal with hills, intersections, traffic lights, and other interruptions. I may need to slow down, stop, or adjust my effort, which means that I sometimes can’t complete the workout exactly as prescribed.

How much deviation is generally acceptable before it starts affecting the accuracy of my FTP detection or the quality of my future workouts? For example, will occasionally stopping at traffic lights or modifying intervals because of terrain significantly affect the result?

I’d appreciate any insight into how TrainerRoad handles these kinds of real-world interruptions.

It’s impossible to put a number or figure on this type of question, but ultimately, we’ll analyze the work that you did and use it to feed the model for prescribing your upcoming training.

In terms of a pass/fail cutoff, there isn’t really a perfect rule that we can apply to all workouts.

Just do your best to plan a good route for the workout and stick to it as close as you can without stressing about it.

If you’re having issues with how your prescribed workouts are feeling and you think it’s related to your outside workout compliance, let me know, and I’ll take a look!
