so obviously for indoor trainer rides TR can evaluate pretty clearly if you were within your target ranges, paused longer between intervals, etc. to be able to “grade” the workout and factor that pretty neatly towards any needed workout adaptations?
But outside workouts it’s clearly a bit more tricky to hit targets to with lots of outside variables (hills, stoplights, cars, people, etc.). Maybe the answer is simple and it’s a sort of “it is what it is scenario” where you adhere to the target power as best as possible and just have to accept the outside workout might not be as closely aligned as if you did the workout inside.
I have one good place riding option for structure outside rides. It’s like the only flattish place near me and it’s a large multi use path where once you get past 5 miles with all the walkers/runners/dogs it clears out and it’s more manageable. Anything gravel around me is full or short punchy climbs so it’s hard to get any sort of longer intervals to work well.
Just curious how others manage dealing with uncontrollable outside variables. Most of my rides are indoors but weekends normally outside and I do find have a workout to follow outside makes those longer rides go quicker.
