Homemade Maurten?

No performance benefits, but if either or both help you tolerate it, then adding them for that purpose… :man_shrugging:t2:

research pH sensitive hydrogel carbohydrate delivery

there is a study on this but more specifically acid damages enamel

I did, there isn’t any meaningful evidence suggesting it prevents or lowers GID at the amounts of sugar mere mortals ingest.

So does sugar

study was done at only 70g/hr. This study highlights the benefits of the maurten hydrogel tech: A Hydrogel Drink With High Fructose Content Generates Higher Exogenous Carbohydrate Oxidation and a Reduced Drop in Dental Biofilm pH Compared to Two Other, Commercially Available, Carbohydrate Sports Drinks - PMC

A few years ago 70g/hour would have been a lot.

Stop making general statements, especially when they likely don’t apply to the vast majority of people.

I have a 5hr ride planned for tomorrow. If I stick to my intended fueling I’ll go through ~$48 of Maurten products. If I make a habit of this diy drinks may be the way to go

Yeah I don’t buy their stuff because it’s overpriced and you can make just as good drink mix for pennies. Don’t see much point for me unless it’s from sponsors.

My rides are generally 90min-3hrs so I don’t think too much of it, but the stack of gels, bars and mixes i set aside getting ready for tomorrow made me do a double take.

More specifically 70g/he is too low to elicit gi distress in regular high carb adapted athletes. Also I’m not sure that they formulated the alginate/pectin drink properly, Maurten uses high methoxyl pectin and high concentration guloronate alginate
