this isn’t Maurten it is just generic sugar water. at this point just put cane sugar in your water bottle and call it a day

I wish I had the stomach for 90g of table sugar per hour. It would sure make life easier!

I tried 100gx3 of table sugar over a 3 hour ride on Sunday…yeah…i didn’t sleep too good that night.

I just run sugar + some lemon.

Sugar is .17 per 100g.

Lemon is .53 per 100g.

Each bottle I mix up contains 300g of carbs so comes to <70c per bottle.

I do also add some salt but have not looked at the cost recently.

Compared to even the cheapest of drink mixes it’s a tiny fraction of the cost per gram of carbs.

I think the gut training is a gradual build up over time. I recently did 80/hour straight sugar for 4 hours no problem. I don’t think I can make use of any more given my power output. I’ve been taking sugar for thr last three months starting at about 50/hour.

Yeah, I’m OK with 80g as well. Maybe I should have tried 90 before 100 lol. But I was at home on the trainer so I figured why not?! Stupid is as stupid does :sob::rofl:

mostly the taste, acid makes the sweetness less intense but is damaging to dental enamel which is the opposite of maurten. I personally have no issues with 120g/hr+ with just cane sugar, I personally don’t use salt except for taste and thirst drive like maurten and the literature concludes there is no benefit of electrolytes besides that. tldr you guys are missing the point completely of maurten’s products

Maurten has found a sugar that isn’t damaging to dental enamel? Interested in this bridge I have for sale?

There is no benefit to using Pectin and Sodium Alginate.

No performance benefits, but if either or both help you tolerate it, then adding them for that purpose… :man_shrugging:t2:

research pH sensitive hydrogel carbohydrate delivery

there is a study on this but more specifically acid damages enamel

I did, there isn’t any meaningful evidence suggesting it prevents or lowers GID at the amounts of sugar mere mortals ingest.

So does sugar

study was done at only 70g/hr. This study highlights the benefits of the maurten hydrogel tech: A Hydrogel Drink With High Fructose Content Generates Higher Exogenous Carbohydrate Oxidation and a Reduced Drop in Dental Biofilm pH Compared to Two Other, Commercially Available, Carbohydrate Sports Drinks - PMC

A few years ago 70g/hour would have been a lot.

Stop making general statements, especially when they likely don’t apply to the vast majority of people.

I have a 5hr ride planned for tomorrow. If I stick to my intended fueling I’ll go through ~$48 of Maurten products. If I make a habit of this diy drinks may be the way to go

Yeah I don’t buy their stuff because it’s overpriced and you can make just as good drink mix for pennies. Don’t see much point for me unless it’s from sponsors.

My rides are generally 90min-3hrs so I don’t think too much of it, but the stack of gels, bars and mixes i set aside getting ready for tomorrow made me do a double take.
