So, when you hit 50+, your memory gets a little fuzzy. I’ve been helping my boss train for Ironman Chattanooga. We leave (driving Austin to Chatty) next Wed. We’ve been working a lot on mindset, but I want to give her last minute advice/pep talk. I’m trying to remember Amber’s advice about approaching a daunting event that goes something like “not with fear and trepidation, but with…wonderment? excitement? something, something, eloquent something”… Can somebody jog my dim memory?
Curiosity
PS Our bodies are amazing
Amber’s enthusiasm is so infectious
that was it! Curiosity and something…
Probably “growth mindset”, knowing Amber.
She does like her psychology phrases
She’s fabulous. So much of performance comes down to what’s in the top six inches. If you focus purely on the physiological aspects, you’ll underachieve, even “just” in training, let alone in competition.
My favourite ever Amberism was when Nate was talking about his hydration and nutrition plans to nail his ambition of beating her at Cape Epic and she just coolly said …
… “it’ll take more than electrolytes, my friend”
Epic!!! her interview with Jonathan on Successful Athletes literally brought me to tears. She’s had an incredible life
That was one of the best podcasts, by any channel, that I’ve ever listened to.
truth
Halfway there!
Still sing it in my head whether a day into a two day ride or at the turn point at my local 5k run.
That and ‘don’t diet on the bike’ are my favourites.
“Don’t diet on the bike” is one of my favorites too!
“I’ve never met a lower gear I didn’t like” will never be topped.
Classic
Not sure if quoting right but “don’t let good get in the way of perfect” is one of my favorites.
Isn’t that backwards?
Enthusiasm. Amber is all about approaching challenges with curiosity and enthusiasm.
ah yeah, your right
THAT was the other word. Enthusiasm!! THANK!!!
Since no one tagged her…I’ll just tag @ambermalika so that maybe she gets to know all the compliments to her in this thread
