Don’t do that! Get your bag at the top and have something warm inside it(long finger gloves, jacket, leg or arm warmers). It is COLD on the way down from Ventoux, REALLY cold. You won’t need a jacket coming up, but you will definitely want one coming down. I was FROZEN coming down, and that was with a jacket. God knows how bad it would have been without it.
Thanks, that is super useful and not something I hadn’t thought of.
Good advice about the cold descent - I remember descending AdH to start the Marmotte on what turned into a hot day in July, and was FROZEN on a fairly short descent. I’d imagine Ventoux would be brutal.
I remember the old trick of bringing a black plastic bin bag and make head and arm holes and wear it like a windproof gilet that you chuck away on the start line
This was such good advice, it was so cold on the descent.
Made it to the top twice. The third day time trial had to end at Chalet Reynard, due to high winds.
I’ll admit I was pretty happy about this as it was a very tough three days.
Already looking forward to next years events, just need to get stronger and lighter!
That’s great! I’m glad my advice helped you out. When I did it two years ago we got the top days 1 and 3 but not the second, also due to high winds. The only issue with that was that due to not getting to the top, we needed to take the long way home via the compact course which skipped Ventoux that day. Made my day even longer than it already was!
Today is „Infinity Pass“Day and I am really stoked to see, if they‘ll also release route details. Knowing the climbs kept me excited for months before Crans Montana and Dolomites.
Don‘t know if it has sold out within seconds, but it only gives me „make selection“, but the page leads nowhere…
Edit:
25 minutes of refreshing the page, like the email urged me not to do, has paid off
From about 16:35 CET I have received the ON HOLD statement. Sometimes, I was able to select an entry and hit continue, only to be confronted with “SOLD OUT”. I persisted and after ten minutes that felt like twenty, I got in. Time to get serious. See you on the climbs, @Aeroiseverything.
Just in case you were wondering.
Sold out in less than an hour, which is an all time record for HR.
Very nice to see, that there are so many crazy people out there!
If you live in europe and planned on doing alps, then this was a no brainer.
How much is this?
it was like $150 euros more than alps, and it let you into all events…it sold out quick
so, I dont see anywhere to buy travel insurance this year, thats a lot of money to put down with no insurance option. I know insurance doesnt cover pandemics, I’m more worried about injuries (the reason I had to defer this past year)
Sold out in less than an hour? Wow, I hope that’s just for the Infinity passes. Did registrations open at midnight sharp?
Just the infinity pass.
I think these went on sale at 4pm GMT and had sold out by 5.
Thanks! I’m going for the Alp d’Huez - Compact version that is.
Despite crashing out last year i am considered alumni and booked for the Pyrenees again in 2022.
Does anyone have thoughts on Davos? A 3-day would work best for me because I could reasonably bring my wife (who won’t ride) and turn it into a European vacation (coming from US). I have climbed ADH, and would love to do it again, but neither of us has been to Switzerland so Davos seems like a good choice?
Ill see you there
