I also don’t know which is healthier, does anybody have any thoughts on this? It doesn’t seem obvious at all if replacing carbs with fats is good or bad.
For dental health without doubt the former and if something is bad for your teeth it is bad for you!
"It’s either way more than you think or way less than you think, depending on which scientists you listen to’
I think that sums all this up perfectly.
I mean, it really depends on what comprises each of those calories of carbos and fat that you would be taking in. Each diet could be really healthy or each diet could be really unhealthy.
The other question is which one is easiest/most sustainable to follow (which doing it ‘correctly’)
Carbohydrates are a prerequisite for caries formation, no carbs no caries. A nutrient that literally makes your teeth rot by definition never can be healthy
I mean, you can solve that by just brushing your teeth…
And lets not confuse carbohydrates with straight glucose and fructose. Carbohydrates as a macronutrient serve a lot of important purposes in the body. You straight up wouldn’t be able to function without them
Are you saying carbs cannot be healthy by definition? did you miss a /s mark? Is this the unpopular opinion thread? A serving of broccoli has 10g of carbs…
As someone who doesn’t eat any carbs (only meat and eggs), I am curious, in what way am I not able to function?
I’m curious, how do you you go on with longish intense efforts?
Hard to say, I can’t really say I do too many such efforts. I only got a power meter a few weeks ago, and most of my rides are 1-1.5k kJ (at a bodyweight of 185 pounds). For example this Saturday I did a 1.5k kJ mountain bike ride, I was fairly exhausted / what some people might consider bonked by the end. The next day, Sunday, I did a 1.4k kJ mountain bike ride, and felt quite good by the end.
I know none of this is impressive, but I also was not impressive as a cyclist before starting this diet two years ago. I am curious to see if perhaps I can continue improving, what going on >2k kJ rides might look like for me, since I know that the body can store ~2k worth of calories in glycogen, and I haven’t done any rides really ever beyond that threshold.
Fruits and veggies cannot be healthy is quite a hot take. I hope it works out for you!
Blueberries are just as bad as a candy bar
-Dr Steven Gundry
An apple a day might keep the doctor away but not the dentist, unless you throw it at him… that what we were taught in dental school. There certainly a lot of foods much unhealthier than apples (or other fruit and vegetables) but are they healthy, I don’t think so…
I would suggest that people in this thread who reportedly have medical training should be doing a better job of identifying when they are giving medical advice that is outside of standard of care or expert/scientific consensus.
This is the standard that your licensing and regulatory body will hold you to.
This is pedantic nonsense.
Why is it nonsense to point out that carbs cause caries? There is scientific consensus on this …
Sorry, but I’m not going down some back and forth rabbit hole with anyone who says fruits and vegetables are unhealthy. If you have to ask why, even more reason for me to be done here.
Have a nice night
I am not the one saying they are unhealthy (that is subjective in my opinion). But I do think it is quite clear that they cause cavities. A tradeoff, like anything in life.
Thats not what I was referring to as pedantic nonsense. So I think we’re good.
Ok yeah I see your point, yeah I wasn’t so focused on the “unhealthy” label, that is sort of arbitrary to me. And I think there is a lot unknown on nutrition. So perhaps the “best” diet does involve carbs, despite some downsides, or not, I don’t know ![]()
