GCN+ being closed, December 2023

It took me awhile to find the Adblocker that was triggering the block on SBS no matter which browser i used. It was the Adblocker on NordVPN itself. I turned that off, cleared the web history and it now works!

An English language feed is available on the German D+ version along with the ability to select any of the commentary languages.

Flobikes + VPN and I’ve been able to watch everything they have so far. I had an issue with the live feed not coming up with Safari but switched to Firefox and have had no issues. Looks like they"re covering most everything: https://www.flobikes.com/events

Reluctantly agree with this and post above. As much as I will forever hate Flo for their stupid spoiler YouTube clips, Flo + VPN seems to be the best combination of race coverage plus limited hassle within a single app for US. Takes 10 seconds to sign up for, set VPN to Canada, and seems like you get pretty much every race.

Can you (or anyone else) share who they have doing commentary for UCI XCO races? That’s my focus. I’ve been leaning towards Max + B/R, but haven’t made a commitment yet.

That might be one of the big misses on Flo. They carry the WC (and I think they may have exclusive rights to it in North America), but doesn’t seem like they show the normal XCO WC events in the schedule.

EDIT: looks like they are in there, I was searching in events for XCO but they are in there under ā€œUCI MTBā€. I haven’t watched any though to see who handles the coverage.

Do you have to set your VPN to Canada to subscribe/register first?

No. You can register, pay, and use the service as a US user, it’s just that the ASO owned races are blacked out in the US. If you flip VPN to Canada then you can watch all those too.

I subscribed to FLO in Canada about a month ago. As others have stated, it looks like the ASO races are not using the Eurosport/Discovery+ commentary which is a shame. I much prefer the Eurosport/Discovery+ crew to the monotone, boring commentary I’ve heard in the ASO races so far.

I am interested in Flo with the Canadian VPN, but their commentary is a concern. Did anyone watch this? https://youtu.be/G_zy0YRuEVE?si=I2m721mrr54QahFH

Commentary was so bad it was almost unwatchable.

Just discovered a downside to accessing Flo in Canada via VPN….i can’t stream it to my TV. When I was doing it earlier this week, I was in my office and had it on my laptop screen in the background.

Will just have to hook up my phone via HDMI cable when I want to do it at home.

ETA - while the ASO commentary isn’t the best, having just watched the NBC Sports highlights from today’s PN stage, I’ll gladly take the ASO feed over those two clowns (Bobke & CVdV). Just awful and unwatchable.

This isn’t Flo specific, and varies by the method you are using to cast. Chrome cast won’t work but AirPlay will. Direct connections to tvs are using different methods, but most won’t work

Basically depends on whether it reroutes the traffic through the new device or still sends it through the device you originated from that is on the VPN

While i have tried it, i believe nord vpn has a apple tv app. Maybe that would allow stream directly on the tv?

True…I had problems doing it with GCN in the past. But then that seemed to get sorted and I was able to do it for the last year or so.

It does on Apple TV. They have the FloSports app in the Apple TV App Store and NordVPN has a native Apple TV app as well you just set it up and go.

Non-sports related, but you can watch way more stuff on Netflix by swapping to other countries catalogs through same method.

I’m intrigued by FloBikes with a VPN and definitely considering it. Max has been fine but missing the ASO races kinda sucks. For those that VPN to Canada or elsewhere, does it pretty much fill the GCN+ hole with all the races they used to cover, or are there still some missing?

For those that use Peacock: is anyone having issues when you start watching a stage and exit the app to continue later that it doesn’t save your place and restart the broadcast when you come back? The progress bar will show where I left off but when I click to play it just starts from the beginning. Extremely frustrating.

It has the classics, RCS races, ASO races, World Championships, so seems like it checks all the major boxes. It’s not as good as GCN+ for multiple reasons but it is serviceable.

Only ASO race I’ve watched on it so far was Paris Nice and commentary was blah, especially in comparison to the Tierreno commentary. I expect the Tour commentary will be better, but it’s not the full Eurosport crew from GCN. I don’t think there’s any way you can see the Eurosport commentators for ASO races without doing one of the European subscription workarounds.

What’s the status for the European sub to Discovery+ for those in the US?

While on vpn to the UK:
Get virtual UK phone number than accepts texts
Get UK paypal account with that phone number
Send $$$ from US Paypal account to the UK paypal account
Create UK Disco+ account and give UK paypal as payment method

Has anyone done this without problems? I seem to recall one person up above that tried it got their UK paypal account locked.

I received an Email yesterday from FLO outlining this partnership.

The good things is Canadians can watch the Giro and a number of other races which weren’t on the calendar previously. My FLO subscription is finally looking to be worthwhile.
