Thank you, I tried this morning, and still had no luck. Iām guessing itās at the NordVPN level then. Oh well, no SBS option. Iāll work on the UK Discovery+ subscription today instead. Thanks.
I just tried with Firefox - I disabled all ad-blocking / anti-tracking, etc. - and it seems to work using CyberGhost VPN. Or at least I got to the point at which I either had to log in to view content or create an account.
Thanks @trpnhntr and @AlphaDogCycling, I tried again, turned off all extensions, turned privacy mode to standard, made exception for https://www.sbs.com.au/, and re-tried Safari. I can log in and browse, but when clicking on a show to watch, I get the message that Iāve got an ad blocker and thatās the cause.
I have a windows machine too (for the trainer), so will have a go on that later, just incase that works.
I used NordVPN last night, set to Australia, on my iPhone. I successfully watched SBS on demand content. So it is some ad blocker on the laptop I cannot find a way to turn off.
@kiwifyx, I donāt know of any free service, but @rastaman8 mentioned https://www.smspool.net/, which seems to charge per message, so itāll likely be cheaper than a week of hushed.
Remember, you only need to receive one confirmation text when you setup your UK PayPal account, because once itās confirmed, you switch PayPalās security setting to 2-factor authentication via an authenticator app (Authy, 1Pasword, etc.). At that point you no longer need the SMS number.
On your laptop, have you tried accessing SBS in private / incognito mode from one of your browsers? Iāve found that sometimes this will fix problems. Plus you can turn off all of the cookie / tracking protections, and not worry about being tracked as everything disappears once you close the private / incognito window
Just tried incognito, and still didnāt work. Iām okay using my phone for now. Focusing on UK Discovery+.
I was thinking about the hassle of having a second AppleTV with a UK App Store account, and remembered that I have an Amazon Fire Stick 4K thing. Iād bought it a while ago, and for a while had NordVPN working on it and GCN+. Iām wondering if thereās a way to run Discovery+ app on a FireStick with NordVPN running in the background. I could then have a US appleTV running on my TV, and the FireStick doing UK apps. Iām not sure if Iād need a UK Amazon account, but it just seems easier to do a UK Amazon account than a UK Apple account.
Iāve set up a Discovery+ GB account through a friend using the GCN free trial. On extended highlights, there are still long (but skippable) ad runs. On a (not quite yet) paid service. That seems crazy to me. No?
Iām on Apple and the subscription is still active. I contacted Apple and theyāve refunded me pro-rata from today saying thatās the best they can do.
Making a fuss has gotten me two movie credits
GCN+ support just copy pasted a line about it taking 8 weeks. Itās been 11ā¦ā¦
GCN has advised us that the subscription Yearly Subscription Package has been discontinued. As a result, you received fewer issues than anticipated at the time of your subscription purchase.

Just wanted to share for Canadians in the forum, seems like Flosport has taken all the RCS events that were previously only on GCN. RCS events are actually Eurosport stream which comes with better commentary that the ASO event that usually only has one commentator. I also just noticed this morning that Flosport will also broadcast (again only in Canada) the Mountain Bike World cup events for 2024. Therefore Flosport is more a less the only subscription needed in Canada to watch all UCI road and MTB races. For once it seems like we got the simpler option in Canada with no VPN needed.
VPN plus a FLO subscription seems to be a very viable option for US viewersā¦set the VON to Canada and you can avoid the NBC Sports idiotic commentators for ASO events. Having to suffer through Uncle Phil, Bobke and CVdV for ASO events was not something I was looking forward to.
That said, I do wish thee was more than a single commentator for those events, but Iāll still take it over the Peacock option.
Iām in Canada and subscribed for a month to see how it works. Itās been a positive surprise so far, probably will pull the trigger in the early subscription.
