US user here trying to access Discovery+ UK. I followed the instructions above with mixed results.
Paypal blocked me from transferring money from my US account to the new UK account that I created with a VPN with a UK Hushed number. It may be related to my failed attempt to use a US credit card last week and they flagged me but who knows.
I had a my wife send me $20 from her US account which worked. (so $20 in Paypal wallet) I then created a Discover+ plus account and paid for the first month via paypal (it made me link a credit card but didnât matter it was a US card).
I now have a Discovery+ account and can confirm that I can watch cycling content via a VPN. I wanted to fund my paypal account for the next year as to not be sending money every month. I attempted to transfer money from my US account to my UK account and thatâs when Paypal locked my UK account. I guess I should have just asked my wife to keep sending me money every month.
Hopefully others have better luck. At least I have a month of cycling access for the CX season.
Iâd recommend that others send a nominal amount of money to start in case Paypal locks your account. Itâs unlikely you will get it back.
Where did you have to link a credit card?
When I signed up for the Discovery+ account with a UK Paypal funding source. It requires a primary payment type even though you are using PayPal.
Thanks for blazing the trail! Iâll be signing up in time for the spring classics.
When I reached that step in the process, I also thought I had to add a separate funding source. I had just sent money to my UK PayPal account and PayPal balance wasnât a choice. So I waited a bit and refreshed the page and then âPayPal balanceâ showed up as an option. So I selected that as my primary method and was able to pay for my Discovery+. And so far no issuesâŚknock on wood!
So my PayPal account has âPayPal balanceâ as my preferred method and no linked banks or credit cards:
Does Discovery+ have all the classics like GCN+ did?
In the UK, itâs exactly the same race coverage.
Yes the same races, but I noticed with Discovery+ (UK), the Tour de France full stage replays cut straight to the âBreakawayâ show after the lead riders finished. Whereas on GCN (US), you got 15â30 minutes more of live coverage showing the rest of the pack finishing, interviews, and full podium ceremonies.
Not a big deal, but it is different. I do like the event timeline feature where you can jump to the 0KM start, specific climbs, finish, etc⌠Makes it much easier to scrub to significant points in the race!
thanks for showing the steps to do this. I got it working! Stoked.
Although a bit weird: Canât get it to play via hdmi from the iPad (sound goes thru to tv, but not video images) but works fine via hdmi from laptop.
On the WheelTalk podcast, they said Australian channel 7 would show TDU. Has anyone not in Australia tried to watch channel 7 with VPN?
Thank you so much @Bikr and @bn158 for your instructions! Iâve searched everywhere and this is the only forum/site that has any instructions! I was able to follow them and was finally able to get Discovery+ UK standard package! Shouldâve waited for the spring classics to kick off to pay for my 1st month but I couldnât wait to see if this method worked (and might as well check out the Tour Down Under while Iâm at it)
Hopefully my UK Paypal account doesnât get blocked so I can transfer the ÂŁ I need in a monthly basis (since I donât plan on watching all the races year-round).
The things we gotta do to support our sport from outside of Europe is honestly ridiculous
WBDâs greed has basically single-handedly wiped out one of the most beloved sports networks (GCN+) and removed affordable access to an entire continent! How can we grow cycling as a sport and inspire new generations of athletes in North America when this stuff keeps happening!? I mean, having 3 separate streaming services (Max, Peacock and Flobikes) and paying ~$450 a year is outrageous. And I donât even know what folks in Canada can even do (not sure if Max will even have the sports addon in Feb. 2024)
I wonder if Red Bull now sponsoring a Pro Tour team will lead to them helping to remedy the situation?
They seem to have money and wouldnât want their big investment to not be seen by a U.S. audience. Maybe they could help work out some live/streaming deals, or even license to show road racing on Red Bull TV?!
Not likelyâŚ.the organizers control their own broadcast rights. Leaving aside that they are âonlyâ a team owner, there is no central body to negotiate with. There is no incentive for ASO, RCS and Flanders Classics to strike a deal with one of the teams racing their events.
For US viewers: is Peacock not showing the womenâs TdU?

Welp, my UK paypal account is now on limited status, meaning i cant pay for disco+ thru it no more. Unless i provide proof of living in the UK. Back to square one
Iâm in Canada, and yes, Iâm lost!
- no MTB schedule, nothing, zero so far.
- Flo is a fortune and covers ~50% of the calendar.
- The rest is not even aired here. (peacock, max, etc).
It looks like they treat cycling as crown jewelry, and only the fortunate ones can watch it â good luck at increasing their audience.
I manage a youth MTB team. It is hard to point them towards anything to watch and get them excited about the higher levels of the sport in any form of cycling. I realize it is a niche sport, but so are hunting and fishing and there are hundreds of options to watch these without high additional costs. But the rights are sold, it wonât change until that deal expires
I can understand this. Ok, they sold the rights, but whatâs the point of making this hard to watch?
I believe itâs proven that by charging a fair price and offering a good coverage the audience increases, at least that reading of GCN+. It was awesome.
But no, letâs try to make more money here and there. Make it harder (and spread) to watch.
I like to think that there are people smarter than me making those top-level decisions, but sometimes itâs hard to convince myself of this.
It is not that they are smarter, they are optimizing for a different thing. We would like to grow appreciation and participation in the sport. The media companies optimize margin.
