Garmin Connect outage

The garmin connect android app seems fully functional to me - just with “down for maintenance” messages still up.

Same on iOS.

Is it showing your data? I get the same message but it isnt showing what is uploaded from my vivoactive 4…like sleep and body battery.

sleep analyze could be take longer time, because it will be recalculated on firstbeat servers first and then it will be sent back to garmin, it’s a queue thing

Yep sleep data from my watch only appeared this morning but activity data was there yesterday.

What are you basing this on? My understanding is they only knew they were infected a week ago but it hasn’t yet been communicated when the penetration actually took place

Typically attackers infect and wait a long time before telling you. This lets the encryption permeate deep into the backups. The further back they have encrypted the backups the harder it is to restore from backup. If you wait six months and have encrypted all backups going back that far there’s a significant data loss potential if the most recent unencrypted backup is six months old

When i say “not infected a week ago”, i mean exactly what you said.
They virus need time to encrypt the data and make sure has been long enough that it will also be on backups.
they discovered when the hackers pull the plug and remove the key

The truth is, unless Garmin know exactly what happened and when, and share it fully. then we are unlikely to ever know the full story.

yes. We are just speculating based on what we think we know about the virus.

Hey TR team, the outdoor workout function is awesome! Additional feature request here (and I hope it is not too heavy of a lift): it would be great to be able to manually export the workout file so we can manually import to Garmin for completing outside workouts. Right now it does not look like we can do this.

This is relevant, not only during a massive Garmin outage (like right now) but also when you just don’t have enough time to wait for the automatic sync. I will often try to send a workout to Garmin for an outdoor workout just before I’m ready to ride and this doesn’t work so well with the automatic system - it needs more time ususally.

Now that Garmin Connect is back online, it is showing duplicate rides for my TR workouts. I’ve been recording these workouts on my Edge 820 so that I could save Cycling Dynamics data, but I used to get just the Edge 820 version of the ride in Garmin Connect. Now it appears that TR is uploading rides, too. It didn’t used to do that. Is there something I need to turn off.

I get directed to an outage screen on Garmin Connect when I try to log in to my account. I did get into my account a couple days ago (?) and could see my data from before. Not today, however.

What did Garmin say on their earnings call?

A few words in the opening statement. The transcript does not include the Q&A, so I haven’t seen that yet. Listening to it in background, let’s see if there’s anything.

Not really finally. Lots of questions on impacts of Covid, from demand to supply to measures taken. A quick note about the difficulty of meeting the demand on the Tacx side. Many questions on the aviation side, given the impact of Covid on that sector. Questions on FirstBeat acquisition (mostly on licensing to 3rd-party). Not a single question regarding the outage.

The statement about the outage, from the transcript:

“And finally, most of you are aware of the recent cyber attack that led to a network outage
affecting much of our website and consumer-facing applications. We immediately
assessed the nature of the attack and started remediation efforts. We have no indication
that any customer data was accessed, lost or stolen. Additionally, the functionality of
Garmin products was not affected other than the ability to access some online services.
Critical affected business systems have been restored, and we expect to restore remaining
systems in the coming days. We appreciate the patience and kind words of support we’ve
received from customers and friends during this challenge.”

So no mention of a $10 million write down of unexpected costs :grinning:

That would/will be in Q3.

And so the saga continues! Tbh I’m only just getting full data from my Fenīx 5 today so guess there is still a fairly big backlog…

here is mostly all OK, only Training Load via Physio True Up is totally wrong, anyway Garmin releasing a lot of Beta Firmwares the past days:

Edge 1030 9.66 Beta
Edge 830 5.66 Beta
Edge 530 5.66 Beta
Edge 130 2.55 Beta
Edge 1030 Plus 2.42 Beta

and Garmin Forum is down, could be possible that the attack came from the Forum?

more and more things are green:
