I have had an issue on a few workouts where after completing a rest interval my Garmin adds an additional rest interval that only progresses to the effort interval after pressing the lap button instead of rolling right into the effort. It keeps catching me off and I start my effort only to look down and wonder why the Garmin is telling me I am over the power target. It always throws me off and derails my effort. Is there a way to make sure Garmin (or TR) does not add that additional step in?
This is more Garmin saying, “you tell us when you’re ready to start the interval”. I agree it’s off-putting when you’re used to riding indoors where there is no “press lap before interval”, but I got used to it pretty quickly, and I actually appreciate it now because I see it as “let’s wait to start the next sprint until after you get past that stop sign”. It does suck on something like 30/30s though, when you’ve been hitting it hard for 10 seconds, look down, and realize “the interval hasn’t begun”!
Once you hit the lap button once to start the 30/30 set it should advance automatically until you finish the set
Its definitely seems to have got better that way compared to 5+ years ago, when it would lap/pause after every interval.
Yes, it is only once a set. wasn’t sure if there was a way to take that out but if not I can adapt to it.
Yep! And then you get to forget again before the next set!
I program all of my home brew workouts to do this intentionally. I do the vast majority of my workouts outside, and I want to force myself to have a minimum test time. But then I want to make sure I’m in an optimal location to start my next interval(s). So I have a programed rest with no timer.
Additionally if I am doing something like 30/30’s (or similar), I will program a 5 second rest interval so I can hit the lap button and have 5 seconds to prepare for the set.
I think the only way to remove it is to rebuild the workout yourself without them. It’s not Garmin adding it, it’s how TR build the the steps when they created the outdoor workout. It’s so that you do at least the prescribed amount of rest but then puts you in control of when the effort starts so it doesn’t do it when you’re on a bad road or sitting at a light or something.
