FTP Prediction Drops 10 points after successful workout

Hey all, jumping in because a few of our earlier posts have muddied the water on this, and that’s on us to clear up, not on you to untangle.

Here’s where our understanding actually stands today:

If you’re affected by this bug, your FTP (prediction and detection) can read lower than it should, and as a result workouts can feel easier than they should. That’s the pattern we see for most affected athletes. A smaller group sees the opposite: an FTP that reads too high, with workouts that feel too hard. Either way, the common thread is a number that isn’t landing where your training says it should.

I want to be straight about why our messaging has shifted. When this first surfaced, everything pointed to an isolated prediction issue tied to outside workouts, and that’s what we told you. It was our honest read on the data we had at the time. As more of you reported cases and filled out the form in the pinned thread (thank you!), that picture sharpened, and it turned out to be broader than predictions alone. So if you were told earlier that detections looked unaffected, that was true to what we knew then. We now believe detections can be caught up in this too.

I want to be careful with the idea of “wasted training,” because two different things are getting tangled together. The honest part: if the bug served you workouts that were easier than they should have been, some of those sessions may not have pushed you as hard as they could have, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But the more important distinction is this: the FTP value on your calendar is a representation of your fitness, not your fitness itself. This bug can cause that value (prediction and detection alike) to drift from what your fitness actually is, or from the trend it’s really on. So if you’re seeing your FTP fall while you’re staying compliant with your plan, keeping outside stress in check, and holding your training volume steady, that most likely does not mean your fitness has fallen. It more likely means the number you are seeing is being affected by the bug and isn’t reflecting reality right now.

One more thing worth saying: FTP doesn’t climb forever for anyone. Improvement tends to follow an arc whose slope flattens over time, and a number that isn’t rising doesn’t mean your training isn’t working. You may be in a part of your season where the goal isn’t a higher FTP at all, but instead holding higher percentages of it for longer, or repeating those efforts more frequently and at greater magnitude. I point this out because this can be tricky to filter out sometimes.

What I’d suggest for now:

  1. If you haven’t filled out the form in the pinned thread, please do. It’s genuinely what’s sharpening our picture of this.
  2. If you believe your FTP should be a specific number, set it there manually. Your workouts will adjust to match.
  3. If workouts are coming in too easy (or too hard), use Workout Alternates to dial difficulty to where it should be.

We’ll keep testing, validating, and reporting back as we learn. Appreciate everyone’s patience while we get this right.
