Perhaps I should have been more explicit for you. The model that takes your workouts and predicts an estimated FTP is not an algorithm. An algorithm may be used to train on data, producing the set of parameters / weights for the model.
Machine learning models are output by algorithms and are comprised of model data and a prediction algorithm.
Do you have any details on that or is that just hearsay?
FTP estimaters exists forever without the need to fiddle with complicated ML methods.
Why would anyone do that and what would those even be trained on, ramp test results?
That’s not “gaming” the system, this is what everyone should be doing. The default prescribed workouts are conservative. The “system” wants you to finish/complete workouts. This is from a long history of TR workouts and training programs burning out users. So it’s gone from too aggressive to conservative. However, if you’re not challenging yourself and occasionally failing hard workouts, then there is plenty left in the tank. You can’t/shouldn’t do this regularly, but staying in a tough but doable training plan isn’t going to break through a plateau.
Not Anymore. Been a bit of chatter on the forum about a new ML system in train now and in the plans that is recommending significantly higher PLs than what people expect.
Here is an example where TR recommended me in my plan a workout 5 levels above my current PL.
thats what i think also. If you really don’t agree or don’t think its accurate. Do a ramp test (or 20 min if preferred) to verify the numbers. If its higher. woohoo, accept that as FTP instead.
Yes I know the goal / point of AI FTP is not having to do those tests anymore. But it could be wrong, not all humans are the same, what works for 95% could be wrong for 5% because of it..
For me it seems pretty accurate. Only time my AI FTP is dropped is after a specialty phase which makes sense, and on top of that I got sick and missed 3/4 workouts.
Recently I got back to TR after a month or so absence, and it loaded my outdoor rides and adjusted my FTP upwards with 5% which also made sense since i was coming of a strong period.
