Sometimes on longer indoor rides nature calls. I’d like a sh*tbreak feature that I can hit during a rest interval that keeps the timer running while I’m running to the porcelain throne. Does this make sense? If the rest interval is 5 minutes and the break takes 3 minutes, I want to come back to see 2 minutes left on the interval so that I’m not taking extra rest.
If you want to keep the timer running I would just not hit pause. Head out at the start of a rest interval and come back when your done to resume the ride.
This is gold, made my night, thanx folks!
Similarly, when I was recovering from a sprained wrist I took to doing VO2 max intervals on foot. I’d done a little bit of running, decided the legs were up to it, so one day I set out to emulate Rattlesnake -1, but after the first set I… Nearly had a moment. With no facilities about, let’s just say I called it Rattlesnake -2.
Honestly - you are overthinking. Your training is NOT being quantifiably impacted by a few extra minutes rest for 1 interval set. Grab a magazine and enjoy the go like god intended.
Just make a note of your heart rate and before hitting the resume button pedal and get it back to where it was before you stopped.
Doubt you lose any benifit this way.
Seriously people, someone show me a study where adding a few extra minutes of rest for 1 set in an interval set has a measurable impact on fitness.
Obviously, if you are doing 40/20s, wait until after your set is done. But beyond situations like that, extending one 4 minute break into a 7 minute break is not going to make any difference.
