Favorite place you have ever ridden your bike?

Road bike, either Boulder up left hand canyon or Tenerife. I’ve never climbed more in my life than on Tenerife. Brutal. I also experienced 3 different seasons on one ride. MTB either Utah (around the Wasatch) or Stowe, VT. VT might have an edge because the beer is so good in that area of the state.

Mountain biking in Scotland. In the Cairngorms national park, especially in the Glen Feshie area, and the Green Dream.

This is a great thread :metal:

My contributions from admittedly limited travel experience:
**Road riding: Leelanau County, MI (the peninsula of land just northwest of Traverse City. If you follow former U.S. national champion and current world tour pro, Larry Warbasse, on Strava he is from there and is currently training there while in quarantine… and making a mockery of every KOM in sight

**MTB: Sedona, Arizona. Something for everyone. Beautiful, flowy red dirt and the most beautiful landscape.

**Best cycling destination: Tucson, Arizona. I think this is the unofficial cycling capital of the U.S. — road, mountain, climbing, cruising … whatever your flavor of fun on two wheels is, they’ve got it all at a world class level in Tucson.

FL the Great Floridian course in Clermont. Brian Piccolo velodrome in Broward County. A1A- FTL to Palm Beach and back but way early in morning Sundays to beat the pious entering and leaving church lots. CO Switzerland Trail. UT St George Bearclaw Poppy and Park City Armstrong and Mid Mountain. San Diego PCH include Torrey Pines or better climb Palomar Mountain. The Velo Sports Center in Carson CA. In short there are superb rides of every kind everywhere so pick your destination first then find your ride unless you have a passion to complete some classic or any classic.

My List:

  • Alpe d’Huez. I climbed it in 1992 during the Tour, and then watched Andy Hampsten win the stage.
  • Tuscany: I did a bike trip that went from the Adriatic to the Mediterranean coast of Italy almost exclusively through Tuscany. I had my best moment ever cycling on this trip. I was riding up a hill towards a monastery, and I went through a butterfly swarm. It was like something out of an LSD trip in a movie. I still cannot believe that moment was real
  • The hills around Thousand Oaks, CA

Road: Provence, France or Girona, Spain. Amazing pavement quality, rides, scenery, (and the FOOD). Also extremely courteous drivers.

MTB: Pretty much anywhere in British Columbia. There are so many amazing places to ride here.

Yes, I like Wales too. Done many of the Scott Endurance MTB series there, plus the E.W.E a 1200 mile bike packing ride

So many beautiful places out there I can’t count them all. Of the few that I have visited I feel madly in love with the French alps

The Côte d’Azur

And of course Mallorca

But let me tell you it all depends on perspective. I once went to Florida for a triathlon and coming from the rainy north of germany I really enjoyed riding in the greater Orlando area!

I’ve been very fortunate to travel some of the greatest places and ride, such as Mallorca, Girona, Sicily but my absolute favorite is the Stelvio, Valtellina valley area. Simply stunning and hard. So many places to ride, great food, very nice people.

After that would be the Dolomites, same as above just magnificent.

Where I live is pretty awesome as well…Santa Barbara has some nice climbing, but great coastal rides as well. Very blessed here.

I’m so jealous of you guys. I live in the Netherlands, it’s mostly flat. Just reminds me I need to go on a vacation and take my bike.

Also, Netherlands is pretty small. So if I go for a century and you want to ride through a forest, the forest will only be like… 20km or something.

I have yet to find a place were I didn’t love riding my bike.
My favourite is probably the Alps. Just everything about it is amazing.
Andalusia was pretty nice, too. Got down there with a friend and re-enacted GCNs Andalusia epic ride.
Tuscany is also pretty amazing. Scenery: amazing, Coffee: worlds best, Post-ride food: incredibly. Only the road surfaces were pretty shit.

I also just realised I haven’t done vacation in my adult life that wasn’t for the sole purpose of riding my bike. Send help.

Oh, I miss living in Santa Barbara so much.

I am from North Wales and loved seeing this! I love riding here - feel spoilt having this scenery on my doorstep.

Lanzarote and Luberon.

Kona, Queen K Highway… because it is hallowed ground

Woodward, Pa on a bmx; East Burke Vermont, Kingdom trails; also Asheville, NC .

I am a bit spoiled living in SoCal. From my place I can ride up to Big Bear over Onyx Summit, or over GMR, head south and ride the coast to San Diego, just from my front door. I have two lift service and one non lift served mountain bike park within about an hours drive, not to mention more miles of trails than I can even count. And it doesn’t matter what time of year it is, I can go outside and ride my bike without having to switch to a winter sport. I bike commute year round, which isn’t even hard.

I love where I live.

But I do like driving around other parts of the southwest to ride; St George Utah, Sedona Arizona, Mammoth California, etc.

I can’t count how many times I ripped that road back in my motorcycling days.
