Yes and no. You can use the pedals as the power source for TR and have TR control the resistance, by pairing the pedals and enabling PowerMatch; but as far as I know, L/R balance is not recorded by TR.
There is no balance data in the workouts I recorded that way, in either TR nor in Garmin Connect, where the data gets sent; L/R balance does get recorded when I use my Edge 520 to record an activity (but not complete Cycling Dynamics as the 520 can only record CD from Vector pedals).
You are lucky that your app or head unit supports Ant+. Mine doesnât (Polar V650) and therefore I am happy having the choice using Unified or Dual channel. Although I have to admit that I am almost always using the Unified channel mode.
Only Android atm. it doesnât yet do L/R balance though. Just sums the power. Youâll see 2 connections on the power sensors screen. Just pair one of them and the other will automatically get paired.
Just got my Assiomas and really like them so far, although I am slightly annoyed by the constant flashing of the LEDs. Seems like there is no way to turn them off?
New question: in the manual of the Favero Assioma DUO it says âpedals automatically switch off after 5 minutes of inactivityâ. On the other hand in the Assioma App you can set automatic time-out to 5 min/30 min/2 hours.
Letâs say you chose the 2 hours time-out option. When does the pedal actually switch off, after 5 min or after 2 hours?
This is for obsessive-compulsive triathletes who are afraid the couple of seconds of wakeup time of the pedals during transition is going to screw up all their data. This way they can wake up the pedals before the swim, and be sure theyâre still alive when they transition.
I have nothing but positive things to say about my Favero Assioma Duo pedals. They have outlasted and been more accurate than my friends with similar power meter pedals. I usually ride a Look pedal system so itâs not really a noticeable difference in float (I even ride extra float while on the trainer). They are a phenomenal option for a power meter and you will get a great reading of the actual power as nothing is lost between the pedal stroke and the crank arm or spider or wherever else people jam power meters these days.
I do believe once the rescue team gets called in to scrape the bottom of the lake, the status of the power meter on the bike becomes a secondary issue.
2 hours - thats what I think as well. I first had the setting to 5 min but they didnât wake up after my coffee brakes. So I decided to go for the 2 hours option. It sucks more battery though.
First outdoor ride with the Assiomas. Forgot to compensate the stack height by raising the seat on my road bike. Apart from that, went well. Surprising amount of L/R imbalance (44/56). Then I realized I forgot to calibrate them after moving from the trainer bike.
Oh well. Maybe Iâll get it all right by mid-summer.
In regards to the auto-cal firmware update. I know people have reprorted changes in their powrler data afterwards, but I guess Iâm just wondering why an auto calibration feature would necessarily affect the power calc algorithms? If itâs not calibrating mid ride then theoretically that part of the code wouldnât be doing anything. I get if you stopped long enough for it to re-cal and maybe something got thrown off, but if you just do a manual cal, why wouldnât that solve any issues?
I have finally just updated, I figured I would have to anyway if there is a new update (I was skeptical). Havenât ridden yet, and I can only do a comparison with a friends Wahoo, so it might not be for a while. Just trying to reassure myself that it will be fine lol.
itâs because I think they behave differently depending on (a) how the pedals are connected (Ant+ vs BTE), an (b) on the device you are connecting it to.
I have a pretty old bike-computer (Polar V650) with BTE only.
Good point @iamholland, you might be right. It wakes up but it wonât re-connect.
I am thinking of buying a Garmin 830 anyway. Just waiting to see if the 830 Plus is being released soon. Maybe the re-connection issue is reason enough making the move from Polar to Garmin now.
