Evidence based training - Prof Sebastian Sitko

There’s been a lot of talk about the science of training with the AI release, this podcast uncovers the current science around some hot topics discussed here:

With thanks to @MikaelEriksson

Limitations of sports science
Evidence around;
Training like a pro
Strength on vs off the bike
Zones and very specific z2
“Active recovery”

Sebastian could be a really interesting interview @Jonathan if/when you get time, I think there’s good alignment with TR’s approach. Would be good to hear thoughts on the data based prescriptions ML has brought.

@JoeX Thanks for the shoutout! About the topic “Limitations of sports science”, I think Sebastian maybe brushed away that question a bit from memory (it’s always been longer since I listened to the interview than it’s published, so I may be wrong here to be fair). I think a good episode on that topic was the interview I did with Joe Warne in August 2025 about some of the issues and limitations in the field at a deeper level than just “sample sizes are small but it’s the best we have”. I still think that sports science has a lot of value in understanding and planning training and performance, but the limitations Joe discussed has an impact on the lens I would take when applying sports science in practice.
