Ever wondered if you can keep up with a Pro?

I’ve watched the World Tour for a number of years and marvelled at how fast they go uphill.

One question I’ve asked myself is; could I stay on the wheel and if so - for how long (or short).

Was lucky enough to get the chance to try IRL a few weeks ago whilst on a short cycling trip to Girona.

Suffice to say that the higher end of Zone-2 for a WTP climbing specialist equated to VO2Max for me! :joy::joy:

Predictably it ended rather quickly …

Evidence of my abject failure captured on film (link below).

Thanks - it was sobering and also pretty awesome to see a rider basically noodling at the upper end of their endurance power whilst I was pushing well over threshold into VO2 just to hold the wheel.

Kind of amazing to realise how fit a person can actually become! :star_struck:

Fitness shmitness. Obviously, you just need to buy a new bike. The 137 gram difference between your antique 2023 model and a new 2025 model, combined with the massive reduction in CdA will more than make up the difference.

Haha! :joy: if only it were that easy eh!

Ha!

Its also scary to think, he’s just a good pro and not an elite like Tadej or Van der Poel 🫨

Never even considered whether I could keep up with a pro. Self-evident.
