Hi,
I use TrainNow for my daily workouts and upon selecting the day’s recommended workout I add it to my Calendar which automatically then adds it in to Zwift which is great. However, I noticed that despite ERG mode being on in Zwift there was no ERG resistance through my trainer so had to manually gear up and down to reach the required Power target. Am I doing something wrong as I would have thought TR workouts in Zwift have an ERG mode capability or does it not?
Do you have your trainer paired in both sections: Power Source and Resistance of the Paired Devices screen in Zwift?
I have a Kickr Rollr so it only provides resistance. Power is measured through my SRAM Force PM. Zwift sensors were all connected as per normal.
OK, check #2 is that you have ERG set in the Z workout screen?
It can also be set/checked on the companion app if you run that:
Upon re-repairing Zwift to my PM I get a signal issue. Possibly the battery in the PM needs replacing. This could be the issue. No power being transmitted to the Trainer via Zwift.
I can’t say for sure, but that seems like a potential cause. Get that battery replaced and retry.
ERG mode definitely on via the Companion App during the workout. I’m thinking it was a connection issue so will wait till next workout to see if I suffer the same issue. Thanks for your help.
Seems the issue was I hadn’t connected a primary PM to the Wahoo Kick Rollr so as a result no resistance could be applied. Works fine now.
Interesting. Not sure if they ever followed through with it, but I believe that long ago, Wahoo announced a firmware update for the ROLLR that would remove the requirement of needing a power meter for function.
Are you on the latest firmware?
I am on the latest firmware but my bike shop where I bought it from says the Rollr was never a unit that had its own PM build in, unlike the Kickr but the Rollr suits me better as there is no hassle in having to take the rear wheel off. Just put the bike on the rear roller, lock in the front wheel and away you go.
Right, it doesn’t have proper “power” without a linked one and I have been aware of that since it’s release. So it may not be functional for your needs without that connection.
For reference, I found what I loosely remembered and it relates to use with speed only for supported apps (presumably Zwift and others). In that use case, no external PM is needed.
