Recently moved over to EPIC 8 from KTM scarp MT and BMC 2 stroke. The KTM and BMC i both had with set back posts. The epic 8 has a steeper seat tube angle making it difficult to get the set back i want with the existing dropper (planning to change it anyway) anybody else have this issue or ideas solutions ?
I have no specific experience with this, but I saw this review on an adapter that goes between a seatpost and saddle that can be used to move the saddle either further forward or backward 27mm.
Thanks. Yes have seen this. It says maintenance every 40 hours tho.
Interesting. I didn’t see that. I just looked up what that entails. Seems to be very conservative CYA type of stuff. Here’s what the manual says:
- Totally disassemble your DROP BEST.
- Clean all parts with a soft, non fraying, dry cloth.
- Check all parts for signs of corrosion,
cracks or other damage. - If there are any signs of corrosion, cracks or other damage, replace the parts immediately and
do not ride before doing so. - Regrease all the parts as illustrated on page 6. Recommended grease: WAGNER Classic Oil KH 100.
But any high quality grease will work too. - Reinstall your DROP BEST following
the instructions on page 7.
Failure to follow the instructions in this manual
including these maintenance requirements
can lead to serious injury or death.
The STA on the Epic 8 seemed a little steep to me on paper, but I’ve never had any issues with it out on the road, and I took mine on a lot of long rides mixing road, bike path, gravel, double/singletrack, and machine-built MTB trails.
For rides like that something closer to a measured ~74° seems like it would work better, but I enjoyed the position on that bike quite a bit. ![]()
I know somebody that has this and managed to bend the pins.
Ive been playing with the setup. Trying to sneak it up a little bring it forward. Rails are way past limit. Other option is find a dropper with set back or dump it all together and stick a straight post on. More leaning towards that TBH
There are a few (rare) droppers with a setback head.
Another option would be to play with saddles. Some saddles have longer adjustment ranges and some have the 80mm wide reference point further back than the average. Such an option could be the Prólogo Scratch family. Their rails are super long and the “T” shape makers you seat further back than normal
Thanks. I will definitely look into that
