I have the beginning and end of routes hidden but this is the first time I can remember getting that notice. All of the data is there, but the route is ‘hidden’. Is it ‘gone’ or can it be revealed somehow? I’ll be looking for the ‘hide the entire route’ setting I guess too.
Funny thing is that the whole route isn’t hidden, the last sub-kilometer is showing, but that’s it. I tried to rip a segment, and apparently because it’s hidden, I can’t tell how I did. Vanity rules? TIA…
In Strava, I can set a privacy zone which hides a geographic region, like around my home, or maybe my workplace. The parts of rides within that zone won’t show to others viewing it. If a ride starts or ends at my home, others won’t be able so see where that is. I can also set the activity to private. In that case, the entire ride is hidden from others and there’s a message on the map that says, “Entire map hidden.” In all cases, I can always see my entire ride when viewing it in Strava. It’s only others that can’t see it. On the map I view, the hidden parts of the ride are colored black and the publicly visible parts are colored red.
For a 13.28km ride that took me 52 minutes 30 seconds.
Obviously I have something set that I’m not aware of setting, or aware of the effect of it being set. It ate my map!! And Apple Fitness, for some reason, doesn’t map rides for me at all, not that that 's important, but I lost the segments, and any idea how I did since the last time I was there. It’s just frustrating and somewhat bizarre, and apparently the rest of the map is just gone.
If you see post 5, Strava is hiding the map, but what it’s getting is already wildly truncated by ‘Garmin’. I was able to get the whole map from Apple Fitness, no hidden parts at all, so it looks like something from ‘Garmin’ is hiding/truncating the map, and I’m stumped at what would do that. I’ll be combing the settings on the various Garmin apps and such.
Map is hidden (black trace) if the activity is set to private in Strava. In Strava, go to Settings, Privacy Controls. Under Activities, WHO CAN SEE, check which option is selected. If Only you, then the map will default to being hidden.
Post 5, image 1 shows what I saw when I went to the ride. Image 2 shows what happened when I turned ‘view by all’ on. It’s just showing the truncated ride.
I took off all the privacy in Garmin Connect, but nothing seemed to say 'block/hide entire map.
THIS is the entire map from Apple Fitness, plus a little jaunt in the car. At least Apple Fitness didn’t hide/truncate/obliterate the map the way Garmin Connect did. (Hopefully I have fixed it) I thought that the Edge only picked up the last kilometer or so, but it showed the entire ride. That is what got me wondering, that and no segments. High tech is great when it works, and the user knows what it’s doing when they tell it to do something .
