Easy way to keep training while on a overseas business trip?

Hey All, Just got back from a month off the bike as I had to go overseas for work. Didn’t ride in that time and lost a tonne of fitness (4w/kg down to 3.15w/kg).

I’m back home now and started back into training and have a goal for an event in October and also main event in January which is heading to the Tour Down under (I’m in Australia).

Thing is I’m scheduled for another 2.5 weeks overseas but this time I was to try and utilise the hotel gym trainer in some way to not lose fitness.

Thought about taking my power pedals but having to remove them and install them daily seems like a massive pain in the butt, plus not even sure if the hotel bikes will be able to have the pedals installed. I have Faveros.

Any other ideas???

Rent a real bike?

Is there a University nearby? Ones around here often have a quality spin bike. Sometimes I swap pedals; sometimes I just ride what they have (often a dual sided pedal with flats on one side and SPD on the other).

run?

I’m travelling to Manila Phillipines for work. No way I am riding in that mayhem traffic. It’s a death sentence.

Running is my last case scenario

Do you know the actual hotel you’re staying in ( might be possible to check out the gym equipment there) or look for a decent gym nearby?

I’m also travelling quite often for work, mostly short trips (a couple of days). I’m using the hotel gym, running outside (easier to pack running kit vs bike) and yoga/body weight strenght training in the room.
Doing a bit of something is always better.

How do you know you dropped from 4w/kg to 3.15w/kg in 4 weeks?

There is a great TrainerRoad article on detraining, have you read it? With suggested workouts for the different energy systems

Forget the power pedals. A HR monitor is all you need for the steady state stuff

A basic interval workout like 30-60s on and 30-60s off is doable on any exercise bike based on RPE.

The sprints should be all out efforts so it doesn’t matter that you don’t have power.

The main problem in a hotel gym will be overheating as they are normally way to warm with far too little airflow/aircon,

Just use the hotel gym bikes with RPE. It is proven to work very well.

I’d go with @KonaSS suggestion as it’s the easiest.

Change the workout to an Outside Workout and follow the RPE instructions. Then mark the workout as complete. You won’t have power readings for the system, but you’ll be maintaining the system that matters; yours

If not, running is always a good way to maintain!

Running this, running that. Whomst dare hammer kick sets in the hotel pool?

My buddy decided to get married in Scotland the weekend before Leadville, and the fun started the week before that. Freaked that I would be stale going into the ride after 12 days off the bike at sea level (I live at 6300ft), I brought my shoes, kits, pedals, and a torque wrench with me and found a gym in Glasgow that was cool with me changing their pedals back and forth. Well, my pedals died - still don’t know why - but I was still able to use them and a HR monitor with RPE to get some great workouts in every other day. I felt dialed when I returned to the states, and the workouts were a nice reprieve from all the Guinness and Scotch flowing like water at the BNB, haha,
