I think this is correct. I am on LV plan and when I have time add in a Z2 ride (all on the trainer during Canadian winter). My compliance is 100% but that is with me working from home during Covid. Normally with travel, etc. it becomes a huge challenge to get in the workouts. I certainly don’t have 5 days a week or 10+ hours to train. While it may not be optimal, the LV plan, at least in my case does yield results and once I get outside in the summer will add more time on the weekends.
sounds like you know him well I guess.
That’s an interesting take…I did notice that DJ had done plenty of videos in the past about how SS is not great and that polarized was the way. I noticed the exchange on the TR podcast, but never picked up on the fact it might have been a cloaked response to DJ. Good observations
Last week Youtube made me sell my disc brake bike and now I have to go find a cycling coach. What will I have to do next week to keep up?
But he didn’t. To me it was very clear he was simply stressing not all Pro’s follow strict POL, and as others have suggested actual data from allot of Pro’s suggest more PYM structures.
But he also didn’t say “POL doesn’t work” in the slightest. The fact he’s simply highlighted success at the PRO level can look different to strict POL seems to have got many peoples backs up for some unknown reason.
No, but I’ve been 48 before and recognize having to alter my training regimen because I couldn’t handle the same intensity I could as my younger self. Been there, done that.
My totally speculative theory is Chad is trapped in a “bad marriage” at TR as a minority owner. He wants to coach but Nate is hell bent on hiring programmers to work on the app. Chad is forced to suffer in silence reading science journals all day, longing for the human contact he had back in his spin studio days …
have you gone keto yet?
Xert. Needs a little investment in terms of input from you and learning the terms/ methodologies but when I raced my last full season of TT races before Covid it completely changed my training and therefore racing for the better. Even helped me make my 2up team time trial partner puke at the end of one of our races he was having to dig so much to hold my wheel. One of my proudest moments in cycling!
But a poll here is just a poll of forum users, not of the entire TrainerRoad user base.
There are so many other factors that come into play - life stress, work stress, sleep, nutrition. Obviously, if people are “failing”, they point to the external factor not the stuff they can control.
I guess that’s where we can differ. That’s not the message that I got.
Well… TR is an app…
you need developers to do all the request people bitch about not having (like me and adding swim/run to TR)
Frankly, the podcast has gotten worse over the years (and better in some regards thanks to Pete and Amber). Too much Nate talking about how much Nate eats or what prep he’s doing for what race, and not enough actual training talk for the TR user base. FastLabs does an impeccable job delivering quality training content, as an example.
A “how-to-use-TR” podcast or educational mini-series would do them wonders. I also think that there’s a lack of TR presence on the forum with regards to addressing the multitude of “I failed x workout” or “couldn’t complete Y plan”…both very common threads.
Sweet spot != Threshold, i’m looking at my TR data, which i thought was THR biased, and i did feel was too much, and it’s actually PYRamidicial, so you could argue… they are following the science - just because you’ve got sweetspot in the mix, doesn’t make it Threshold automatically! Might even end up POLarized if you take their advice and read the notes (i.e. like you would for a ‘real’ coach, you always need a bit of give and take, but end of the day it’s an APP your talking too, so you need to be a bit more affirmative in what you need).
Yes, but you could use more than 1 main guy to design all the training program.
Agree to some degree.
You only need 1 guy to do the plans… you might do better with more than 1 person input designing the plans.
No I only snort lines of plant based maltodextrin and fructose in a 2:1 ratio
+1
I understand he is the owner of TR but podcast is slowly turning into his weekly training journal. Also he could ease off on trash talking. Enough already.
Wait till you hear about the new research into 1:1 ratios…
Thanks for your comment. Glad you are having success. ![]()
