Dogma f or SL8 S works

Help! I can’t believe I’m writing this and sharing but I’m conflicted .

So i am lucky enough to be in a position where I’m down to a choice of two bikes for my next bike for next spring .

As I work in the bike industry I can access a discount on a new tarmac . Job done I thought . Why look elsewhere, rave reviews , I’ve only owned specialized bikes for 15 years and my last bike an SL5 pro is now ten years old. Except the new colour schemes don’t float my boat. Probably leaning towards solidity black to red .

The Dogma has always turned my head, the curves , colours and heritage make a compelling proposition.

The lbs has proved a £1k discount on the dogma so once the dust has settled there’s just under £2k difference. The dogma does have Princeton 4550 wheels and I’ve opted for Ultegra to keep costs from entering stratospheric stupid rather than just stupid level.

Both bikes have cost with personalisation, cranks , gearing etc

So picture me sat in my lbs drinking in the beauty of the dogma luxter blue ……heart says yes head says tarmac.

No I can’t acquire both, the thought has passed though but I’m trying really hard to be sensible here. I appreciate sensible is subjective .

Coming from the SL5 both bikes will be a vast improvement so I won’t be unhappy with either but I want to avoid if at all possible the situation where I’m riding my choice of bike and see the other bike on the road and wishing I had chosen the other one….

You need the dogma.
It’s not about performance at this point. It’s all about sexy looks. I’m attracted to the stem cockpit on the simplon and the madone where the seat post / frame is different. I am perfectly happy with my SL7. But……

Coming from Specialized I just ordered a F5. While not the same Spec has what yours would be. For me the main thing was yes a Specialized would be a bit lighter but the Pinarello are so much better looking and that’s what sealed the deal

Flip a coin. If you’re unhappy with the result, get the other one.

But :face_vomiting: is how I’d describe the speed sniffer. Dogma F for the win

Just reading this makes me think you have already made up your mind, and you need some moral support to leave your girlfriend, sorry, I mean *ex-*favorite bike brand

Honestly, color, looks and design are important considerations. When I was a kid, we “had to decide” what super car we liked, Porsche Turbo/959, Ferrari Testarossa/F40 or Lamborghini. We knew nothing about driving dynamics, etc. Even today Ferraris, which are not one shade of red, feel wrong to me.

Thank you for making me chuckle!

Oh I agree. :face_vomiting::face_vomiting: for speed sniffer. But :face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting: overall for the Pinarello. I know looks are subjective but the Dogma is the ugliest bike on the market in my eyes. S5 a close second, SL8 probably third. I sold my SL8 because I hated the looks.

Scott Foil is a beauty. Canyon Aeroad, SuperSix are up there for looks.

I think the SL8 only looks good if you are able to run it slammed

Taste is personal, and I like that there is a variety of bikes out there. Pinarellos always looked like a modern sculpture to me, but I never wanted one as a bike.

Great insight and nail on the head! Chapeau sir!

The dogma was ordered earlier this evening in luxter blue with a February delivery date tbc.

In retrospect I was conflicted on numerous levels but the final decision reduced down to emotion. When describing the Dogma to my wife I mentioned the Dogma made my heart flutter when I first saw it in my lbs… It seriously did. To say my wife looked taken back by my comment would be an understatement.

Thanks for all the contribution’s from fellow forum members. :+1:

Good call. I think the SL8 is the better overall bike. But at the level of bike you’re considering, all of the bikes are close enough in my opinion.

Which means pick the one that looks best to you. Which means Dogma F.

I one in the bike store yesterday for the first time and kept thinking, “Damn that’s a beautiful bike. I want to be like Tom Pidcock”

Nice choice OP! I’m not huge on the wiggly Pinarello designs, but if I was going to buy one, that blue is gorgeous!

Congrats! That’ll be quite a NBD.

Do you know anyone who has ridden both and can give you an unbiased opinion?

Only on the Dogma. Who are all positive around the ride, ownership experience and support from the LBS. Great feedback the SL7 S works but no experience on the SL8.

Past the emotional currency of the dogma, there’s a bike fit and customisation around the bars, stem and crank length included. Both bikes are a sea change to my current bike so I can’t foresee any issues .

I have been torn on something similar (kinda) - I have a friend who has a new SL8 pro that he purchased a few months ago. The short story is he needs to sell it and he is trying too sell it to me for $4.8k (MSRP is 8.5k). I know its a good deal, I just dont think I can get past the speed sniffer, it is just so bad for my taste.

I am going to say Dogma…

That is a pretty good deal, hard to pass up. I might get weak and simply give the bike a nose job later

I am still thinking on it - at the end of the day it is still virtually 5K and I am very hands on and I can build some pretty cool bikes for 5K.

How would you do a nose job???

That’s fair. And you may not need an almost new bike in your stable.

Do I look like a plastic surgeon to you?

Its that old saying that we always talk about - I have a '19 SL6 disc brake bike that I am riding.

I don’t get dropped because of my bike, I get dropped because I am 200lbs and have to make 700w to everyone else’s 500w going up these jabs around me haha.
