i just got an ultegra di2 set from them. ordered wed (before thankgsiving) and was supposed to be delivered on black friday, but was being held because i had to pay tax/import which came out to around $150. not sure if my state (CA) will charge me anything extra. i did pay the tax/import fee and it was delivered the next day (saturday). overall very fast shipping and i’m impressed.
i haven’t seen what the new groupset would look like in the new retail boxes, but aside from the cassette, everything came in brown boxes but were complete with labels/manuals.
True… is a early 2022 watch (Epix Gen2)… but AFAIK still receiving updates… and about $150 less than 965
Not a horrible buy… one can do MUCH worse with $399
Absolutely! Just missing the latest sensors, the flashlight, and maybe something else. I agree, great price. Just wanted buyers to know it’s not the “latest and greatest”. I’ve been mentally successful so far in holding out to upgrade my Fenix 6 Sapphire until next BF…but this is a really tempting price.
The main thing it’s missing for my purposes is multiband GPS. Western Bike Works had the 965 for $480 of late so I think that was a better deal if you want the latest GPS tech.
But also the thing was horribly overpriced from the get go, and the current offering price reflects that.
This is the version I have, and IMHO it’s worth every penny. The AMOLED display is at a whole 'nuther level from the previous display technology… stunning, and readable in ANY light level.
And it’s a decent-looking dress watch, which is a non-trivial advantage: at least some of my clients would look askance at a Forerunner on my wrist, but the Epix Gen 2 flies under the radar.
Is the new Epix Pro a little better? Sure. But at this price, the 2021 version is a steal.
The main WTF with the Epix is they chose not to offer multi band on an $800 watch, then just a few months later put it on a $350 Forerunner 255. Then of course was the 955, which while not quite as dressy and lacking AMOLED, was fully featured and undercut the price of their previous flagship offerings by a significant margin.
I am not complaining, I think the new watches are great deals for consumers, but if I had gotten a higher end Garmin a few months prior, I’d be pissed because they killed the value of the slightly older watches like the Epix, 745, etc. both for owners and retailers with stock.
The weight difference is substantial. You might want to keep the 255 as a backup, or for activities where you’re going to beat it up substantially, or something. Or sell it to fund part of the purchase price.
What exactly is it that they did not put on the Epix Gen 2, that they did put in the 955 and Epix Pro? I’m not arguing with you, just trying to understand.
I’m looking at the spec pages for both and I’m not seeing the differences, and my Epix Gen 2 (non-Pro) has “all + multi-band” GPS accuracy settings for all activities.
