They are doing a trade in program for those with the Core 1 sensor. And interestingly enough Zwift will be adding support for body temperature:
Would love to see TR do the same.

I’ve been using the first Gen for once a week heat training. Takes a while to connect & calibrate, but does a good job of helping me keep an eye on where I’m at.
Really interesting but for $300 not sure I’m gonna bite on this one…
Though I might be feeling differently in a couple months when I’m racing in the DC area at 90f and 90% humidity.
Same. Zwift integration is somewhat tempting and I do have the first version I could trade in, but my experience with it is that I didn’t get enough value out of it for what it costs (plus it has some serious design flaws that made it annoying to use).
Well, one thing I realized with the sensor (especially after they added the “heat adaptation score”) is that, assuming the data it shows is accurate/usable, it’s not actually that hard to get heat adaptations, so the sensor itself wasn’t that helpful for heat training. A couple weeks riding and running outside in the summer was all it took to get me to “100% heat adapted” according to the app ![]()
I grew up in DC and raced there a bunch in the late 80’s / early 90’s (shoutout to the old Westgate races!!)…hazy, hot and humid is my jam. ![]()
DING DING DING!!
This is the type of device that I’d rent for month if they offered that type of program. Just to test and dial in some heat training protocols. I’d be willing to pay like $30 bucks and then send it back when I’m done.
Well they have 30 day free trial ![]()
I bought one back in June. It has been a nice additional data point to compare workouts over time, and answer the “why was today so hard compared to the same workout last week?” with actual data instead of “oh it was hot.” I also identified that my ice vest raised my core temperature over the course of a trainer session compared to no jersey.
I haven’t done a heat protocol yet, but having the sensor has shown me the impact of temperature on rpe and heart rate, and reinforced the need to drink sufficient cold fluids.
I’ve done plenty of schweddy session prior to heat training being a thing. Since then I’ve become an exclusively outdoor rider but that may change now that I’ve back to the Bay Area. If I can avoid active heat training I will and I’ll stick with sauna sessions.
