Coming Soon: Updated Training Approach đŸš”đŸ»

I did. Haven’t heard anything.

I did apply to be in the Beta, and not heard anythink back, personnally I’m not that keen on being part of beta programs, I pay to use the software and to work as a tool, not to do the beta testing and bug finding for the company, I actually hire people to do that for me (at work), one of the big complaints about Zwift and Garmin, is the number of bugs, hello
you’re part of their beta program

I came back to TR to evalute if it could help me again, as a former user, my training was going well, had my highest ever FTP and was doing my plans, but I lost my job, now have to commute rather than work from home, and it all went a bit off the rails, so I signed up for TR at the beginning of Dec to evaluate if it would help me, not being in the beta, I’m not sure what I have evaluated so far was worth evaluating, if everything is about the change (if not, why is everybody getting so excited)

It is a shame that TR seem to have managed to turn exciting and positive into an own goal, I don’t know why the started a email compain on xmas day, for a product they had only just put to beta, and set an expectation that the full release would happen on the 1st Jan, but it does seem like and unforced own goal and is causing distraction for the good things coming

I mirror the experience and remarks of a few on here.

Change in circumstances, less time, meant I wanted to give another option a try to try and maximise my training. The publicity blitz was at the right time, so decided I would give TR another go. The newly added “beta testers” announcing it was general release and the previous comments from TR about how release was days away “fooled” me into re subscribing before the release happened.

That was my own fault, but the complete radio silence since then from TR has been annoying and results in a growing frustration with TR.

The media blitz which heavily promoted and featured “subscribe now” messaging, now feels like a push to bring revenue into last year for whatever reason.

I know software is hard, but I think the lack of communication after a deluge of marketing and posts in the public forum just leaves a slight bad taste. And yes I realise that is not entirely rational but it is human nature and generated by TR taking advantage of that human nature to want the new shiny thing in the first place.

Oh I notice on the forum the sentiment is on a downward trend.
People don’t like to wait. Things like “Coming soon” is no help.

I also read the comments and feel the vibe, but I believe that it is their best to have the release asap, so I think the wait is because maybe they found an issue that needs to be solved first. For me it is better to wait and have it perfectly working than facing issues all the time, thinks this forum will for sure explode

There are a few issues. But they seem to be fixing them pretty quickly.

yes sure! Better a tool that works! (but be careful with announcements). Apple releases and the day after you can buy. Coros announces and you can buy, 10 weeks later. In that time I bought already something else.

That’s pretty confusing because if you hover over 3 in Zwift it says Easy and if you hover over 7 it says Hard. It’d be useful to see how TR software actually interprets the score coming from Zwift because it’s pretty fundamental. If your version is accurate I’ve been logging all my training incorrectly since the start which might explain a few things that I was putting down to old age

The radio silence is very odd. No podcast since Christmas Day either. If it were any other business I’d guess they weren’t trading any more.

For what it’s worth, using the method Chad documented (1-2 in Zwift = 1 in TR, 2-3=2, etc.), when I login to TR after my Zwift ride, the RPE lines up as I expected.

Love the TR Resources google sheet. I have the 7 and 3 zone model from the simple sheet printed and on the wall. Love to see if RPE, heart rate, output, etc are correlating (or not).

Right on! Glad it’s a handy option for you

I admit I have not followed the whole TR workout in Z closely, so the list above may be off.

That said, I am not sure that TR has specifically said that the “wording” between both apps is meant to align. Anyone got a TR comment or resource that covers this?

ETA: There is minimal instruction on the Z rating from this one article. If there is nothing more than that, I would largely ignore the “wording” used as I think Z made what it made and TR made what it made without a specific attempt to make them align.

So I am still comfortable with the uniform distribution (2Z in 1TR) at this point.

And to the question about how 9 could be relevant in All-Out vs pure 10 for any,

  • I can see that this section could be anything from a near immediate failure to maintain the workout and crash early. This would seem to be a clear 10 to me.
  • However, if a person maybe gets half or more through a workout and then crashes hard, this could be more of a 9 in my mind.
  • Wishy washy of course, but I will take that liberty since TR says “rate it how it feels” as they refuse to delineate more specifically.

Is there a link to this sheet? Thanks.

Yeah kind of surprised the podcast today isn’t covering this update. Way too much information across all these threads to keep up with what’s actually out vs coming soon.

Does TR publish release notes somewhere on what’s changed in the training system?

That’s how I interpret it as well. Some all outs required a back pedal during the last set of over unders is maybe a 9. Anything earlier in the workout or reduction in intensity maybe a 10. It probably doesn’t matter as much as people think.

Me too. Guess the update really wasn’t ready for prime time.

@Jonathan I’d love early access to the new TrainerRoad AI

I could be wrong, but think you need to go here to request beta access, instead of tagging reps.
