Cassette marks on freehub

I noticed small marks on left edges of my freehub body is this something to be concerned about? Caused by not tightening hard enough but I didn’t touch it since bike shop sold me. Do I need new freehub body and is it easily replaceable?

Looks like pretty minor scoring to me. Not nearly bad enough to worry about replacement yet.

That is completely normal and happens with most freehubs.

Only an issue when you can’t remove cassettes anymore :+1:

I’m currently riding far far worse!!!

Yes, completely normal with aluminum freehub bodies. It can makes cassette removal a little difficult but it will not require replacement. If you are careful a light filing of the high spots will allow the cassette to slide back on easily but it is not strictly needed.

Some cassettes have an ‘anti-bite’ strip that stops that happening as much. The hubs I have have an option for a steel freehub, which I’ll probably go for next.

What you have there is absolutely nothing. There’s a tremendous amount of torque on the cogs that gets transferred to the rear wheel via those splines. A properly torqued lock ring doesn’t prevent that. The thin edges of the cogs can dig into those splines, especially on aluminum freehubs. After awhile, it can get so bad that it gets very difficult to get the cassette off. Here’s an example of one that’s gotten pretty bad.

Totally normal. Sram XD/XDR is a better design (in my opinion), they thread the cassette tightly onto the freehub.
