Canyon grail AL etap frame failure (warranty process)

Anyone had luck with warranty process on Canyon frames? I got this Grail etap in 2022 and have gotten lots of rides in with it. It’s a great bike for the price. However, had a total frame failure which doesn’t appear to be the cause of a wreck. I’d know since I didn’t wreck. Actually, completed two back to back 50 mile days and then when washing my bike noticed the seam separation. I’ve already put in a ticket with Canyon, but I have no idea how it’ll go. Anyone had similar experiences? I’d definitely expect a frame to last more than 3 years.

Update:
Canyon asked for pictures and after a few more back and forth emails, they offered to give me about $1500 dollars. They also agreed this was a frame failure, but they couldn’t find a replacement for me.

To receive the $1500, I need to have the bike cut into three pieces and send them a picture. I haven’t done that part yet, but planning to break down the bike soon and take it to my LBS for chopping. I don’t have the tools for that at the moment.

I am glad they are offering something, but it doesn’t feel that great. The bike was 2500 new and it failed after 3 years. Luckily, I can still use all the components and move them onto a new bike.

1500 for a new frame of a 2500 bike is a great deal. Only strange thing is that they cannot find a replacement.. Maybe none of the current frames can fit the bb, post, stem, etc. So that is something to keep in mind looking for a new frame. (But with 1500, there is room for some additional components)

It’s a fun 15 min job with a hacksaw .

$1500 seems a good compromise. A friend of mine had an Al frame fracture at the top of the seat stays and Felt offered him sweet FA. “Out of warranty” or “normal wear and tear” or some such excuse.

Ohhh. Good idea. I do have a hacksaw. That would be cheaper. Assuming I don’t injure myself.

I also considered they are maybe just being lazy and paying cash over the mail is easier than finding a replacement frame and shipping it to me?

Are you USA based? Probably easier to get warranty in Europe..

Yea, in Washington state. I mean I did get the warranty, they just gave me cash instead. It’s probably a better deal anyways. Now I can probably find a used carbon frame for that price which is even better and swap the components over.

Photoshop the cuts. Have it welded. Use it as a beater bike.

Deed has already been done! Plus, that’s unethical.

Well at least you can sell the fork and stem on ebay!
